“A static defense is slow suicide.” - Napoleon Bonaparte
Instead of “holding the line on taxes”, which means that Republicans *lose* everywhere else *but* taxes, instead the Republicans have a brief moment in which they can attack.
They can refuse to pass any more continuing resolutions until the Democrats give them what they want.
They can refuse to stop sequestration until the Democrats give them what they want.
They can refuse to raise the debt limit until the Democrats give them what they want.
This is *exactly* what the Democrats have done, and would do, to Republicans, were their roles reversed. And yet the only thing we are hearing from Republican leaders is that they “will hold the line on taxes.”
Phooey. This achieves nothing!
Why not refuse to fund the EPA? Refuse to fund the DHS?
If Harry Reid does like he has done for THE PAST FOUR YEARS, and refuse to let the senate even consider a budget, then either the Republicans continue to act like whipped, co-dependent puppies, or they can attack Harry Reid with a snarl, and say,
“NO, HARRY REID! YOU DO YOUR JOB AND YOU MAKE THE SENATE PASS A BUDGET, TOO, OR ELSE YOU DO NOT GET ANOTHER THIN DIME FROM US!”
Seriously, the Republicans leaders know all this, yet all they do is snivel and promise the very least thing they can, hoping that Republicans and conservatives will let them get away with it.
Grow a spine you wimps.

It should be evident to all by now that, for the House to gain any power or influence over events, they must first re-gain their spending authority.
For that to happen, they must take a stand along the lines suggested. They should pass budget that they believe in...send it to the Senate...and leave town. Pass a note to Harry that, when he's ready to pass a budget thru the Senate and abide by the decision of the Conference Committee, you'll come back to town.
But, until then, no business gets done.

It’s especially infuriating, considering the way Obamacare passed.
I hate to say it, but the situation appears hopeless. Might as well spend $10 trillion this year, default and reboot. I fear a long, dark night.
Since all spending bills are generated in the House, You are absolutely right.
