EVANSDALE, Iowa --- Authorities today said hunters found two bodies in a wooded area. While they did not say they were the missing girls from Evansdale, law officers said it was not the end they had hoped.

Capt. Rick Abben said the two bodies were found in an undisclosed wooded area about 12:45 p.m. Wednesday.

The bodies have been taken to the state medical examiner's office for an autopsy and to get a positive identification.

Elizabeth Collins, now 9, of Evansdale, and Lyric Cook-Morrissey, now 11, of Waterloo, who are cousins, have been missing from Evansdale since July 13 -- 145 days.

The girls were last seen that day on their bicycles. Their bicycles and Elizabeth's purse were found near the recreational trail around Meyer's Lake in Evansdale.

No trace of the girls has been seen since. They have been the subject of massive searches and police investigations by several agencies, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

The parents of both girls have been notified of the new development. They have asked for privacy.

Abben said he would give more information Thursday afternoon.

It took Arizona 20 years to execute Stokely for a similar crime, if this was in this case, indeed, a criminal act. How long will it take Iowa?

I can’t imagine how devastated the parents must feel. For the rest of their lives, what their daughters experienced before death will haunt them.

It haunts me. We need to bring back public executions.

Whoever did this need to be hanged by the neck until dead in public and soon.

This seems to be occurring more and more frequently since Barry Benghazi rose to the throne. I guess these monsters know that the ‘RATS are “very tolerant” and “nice people” who won’t do anything to them.

We now have the technology that we didn’t have in the past. Other than human error, which has happened recently and must be addressed, there is no reason that we cannot proceed without years and years of delay in carrying out executions. Delay emboldens those who would commit these hideous crimes.

And people(mainly the authorities)wonder why Ellie Nestler killed the jerk who molested her son. It's a wonder more people don't walk into court rooms and shoot the POS who murdered their children.

Iowa does not have a death penalty.

No death penalty here, unfortunately. And the perp is still unknown anyway.
