Now there's an idea! Why didn't we think of that? While we're at it, let's keep cars out of the hands of drunk drivers.
How could we do that? Well, let's start by passing laws that prohibit children, criminals and the mentally ill from owning weapons - and let's prohibit drunk driving. Yeh, that should be a good start.
Oh, wait a minute, we already have such laws, as does Mexico.
The Mexican Constitution guarantees the right of Mexicans to possess arms. Even so, gun control laws in Mexico are very strict, and police discretion in enforcement makes possession of firearms of greater than .22 very difficult and risky for normal citizens. As you can read in the papers everyday, strict guns laws in Mexico sure have solved the crime and murder problem there!
Here's an idea: School teachers in Israel are allowed to carry weapons and there hasn't been a school shooting there in decades. p But, I doubt your desire to do away with the 2nd Amendment is swayed by facts. For the record, what other parts of the Constitution would you like to change?
Unfortunately, after today we are in a shrinking minority of Americans.
We can yell and scream about guns don't kill people... or folks supporting the constitution can frame the debate about how to keep crazies from killing 5 year olds with guns.
As of today digging in and doing and saying the same old same old is not going to work ...
Good post. Laws only influence those who have a penchant to be law abiding citizens. Others could care less.
We need to see an objective demographic and religious analysis of those that are most vociferous about hog tying law abiding Americans with more gun control regulations. If it was disproportionately (which it isn’t) mostly American-Irish or American Indians it would be made into an obvious issue.
