NJ town to station armed cop at schools
NY Post ^ | 12/23/12 | SUSAN EDELMAN

Don’t mess with Marlboro Township.

The leafy, well-heeled New Jersey suburb will station a permanent armed cop in each of its nine schools starting Jan. 2.

It’s apparently the first district nationwide bent on packing heat in every schoolhouse since madman Adam Lanza gunned down 20 children and six adults at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Conn., on Dec. 14.

“We’ve made a collective decision as a town that we need armed security in each of our schools,” Mayor Jonathan Hornik told The Post.

“With this new evil, you can’t just sit there and hope that it doesn’t happen in your town. We must protect our kids.”

Notice the article to a dig at the idea by pointing out that Columbine had a armed guard and it did not prevent the massacre. The reporter does not know that police tactics changed since Columbine. Old tactic, wait till back up and SWAT arrives before lone officer moves in. Today officers are taught that first at scene proceed to find and kill shooter. Making victims wait is a death sentence.

Very simple - determine how many Leftie parents object to armed guards and how many parents want armed guards. If the Leftie kids are enough to fill up two of the 9 schools (or whatever the number will be), put them in those schools ..... no guards per the parent’s wishes & be sure and post those “Gun-Free Zone” signs all over the place. The rest of the kids go in the remaining schools WITH armed guards .... and signs on the property that the school is protected by armed personnel who will use deadly force. Hopefully, nothing bad happens to anybody - even the Leftie kids who have no say in the matter and are at the mercy of their parents who choose not to protect them to be politically correct, peaceniks, gun haters, or whatever the current rationale for ‘no guns’ happens to be.

Some mad gunman will attack a school again....but I bet not in that township. They go where the victims are helpless. Florida schools have “resource officers” which are armed police or peace officers. They’ve had them for years. Gun control won’t work, and even if it did, there would be a long lag time before it would make any difference. The guns are already available. Any news media person who promotes gun control should turn in ALL their own guns and get rid of any security detail. How many of them have children in public schools who are unprotected. Not any I bet.

If liberals are against armed cops then we should push unarmed cops be present and let the police union do the rest.

Liberals do hate it.

One school superintendent in York County, PA (my area) actually told the local newspaper Friday it would be a bad idea to have armed security because of the children.

Contact your state legislators in the next few weeks to demand armed security be set up in every school.

It can be the expensive police or a less expensive arrangement, but force the local liberal schools to secure their facilities with armed security.

Depends on the implementation. I don't really like the idea of armed guards -- I can see a lunatic walking up quietly and just taking out the guard. That starts the spree, and then it's just Sandy Hook all over again. The guard is dead and achieved nothing. That, at least, is a worst case scenario.

I much prefer the idea that: "Some of our teachers are carrying, and have received advanced training. You don't know which teachers. You don't know how many teachers. This is not a good place to try and start trouble."

THAT would end school shootings.

Stationing of police at schools is a bad idea

Kids will grow up thinking constant armed surveillance by the state is normal.

This enables tomorrow’s totalitarianism.

Also, why would you want ANOTHER way for retiring cops to pad their pension benefits. Who do you think will be taking these shifts? Cops in their last two years before retirement. And it will be overtime.

And then someday one of these cops will go nuts after being rebuffed by the hot new first grade teacher and go nuts and do something bad.

Both the left and the right seem to have the same premise: That you can use force and the threat of force to make humans not to Sin.

Sorry but these tragedies cannot be stopped. Sin is part of human existence. Always have been. Always will be.

Most females I’ve talked to who went to women’s colleges always had armed guards at their colleges. Why should little children deserve any less? This, and no seatbelts on schoolbuses, have always puzzled me. Why the heck not?

Perhaps more than you think, better Idea is to post a large sign outside schools that the area is protected by cameras and armed security. I think not many gun toting loonies will enter, but rather look for a place that have “gun free zone” posted, I would think the best and cheepest thing to do is to have willing and well trained teachers pack concealed weapons at work, having armed police at every enter and exit door in all scools will eventually be to costly to continue, (yes,I know our kids is worth whatever it cost) but fiscal reality is what it is, where would the scool board cut, I bet it would not be their or the teachers salaries. putting up a fence infront of the open barn door after the horses are gone seems to me to be a moot point

Did he mean it is better to have "unarmed security"?

(Liberals and unionized teachers are mentally defective.)

......good points!

........pay armed teachers a thousand bucks more a month and see how many lose their scruples over-night!

....... Because kids are caught in a potential crossfire though training should be extensive and rigorous including hand to hand combat in case an all out fight without weapons occurred! In such an event, we want the good guy to win!!!
