Isn't that nice? That we're spending money for GENDER and EQUALITY in freaking Afghanistan? Isn't it nice we're opening schools for girls...?

I find it strange that the people most fiercely turning away from the stark sexual and hierarchical realities of Afghanistan, graveyard of Empires, are CULTURAL RELATIVISTS.

You would think that they would not lift a single finger to change the neolithic values there, but instead they not only banish all notion of good and evil here at home, but worse, they go tilting at windmills, trying to turn Afghanistan into SWEDEN.

WE ARE DYING FOR THIS, and it's completely stupid. That we dedicate a whole department to this foolishness means not only do we not understand their culture, but that we are discarding our own. It also shows a liberal effort to transform all military expenditures into foolhardy social experiments.

The only person who could make such plans are people who know they will be far, far away from any effort to implement them.

If you think soldiers are unappreciated in the U.S. today, imagine how miserable your career gratification must be if you are a construction engoneer/advisor in a place where the people will still be using donkeys for transportation and urinating in their drinking water 500 years from now.
