The property is 6,000 square feet with 5 bedrooms, 6 baths and an contemporary Asian theme. Supposedly it was to be listed after the Obamas vacationed there last year for $7.9 million. Its unknown if plans changed to sell the house or if the property just never sold. Either way, the Obamas are sure to have had a good time in this luxury beachfront home.

2000 square feet more than what I plan on building as a retirement home.
3 1/2 more bathrooms, 2 more bedrooms, and I will tell you that mine will ot cost NEARLY as much.

So it seems the pencil-wristed Nancy boy from Nairobi and his menage just can’t make the social cut in Siasconset these days. In fact, he couldn’t make the cut as a busboy at the Chanticleer - maybe passing out towels in the mens room at The Harvard Club, now there’s a good fit.

A lot of the “cost” is the price of the land. Hawaii is probably the most expensive place to buy actual property in the US, excepting maybe NYC.

6000 s.f. and only 5 bedrooms? They must be some HUGE rooms.

Nice place.
Obumer could have stayed at a VIP house on the Navy base in Oahu for no cost to taxpayer.

Not really. If you figure there are probably at least two separate “living room” areas, plus a large “luxury” kitchen and probably a “great hall”-type room for entertaining, in addition to the dining room and probably a study, and the Master bedroom no doubt has dual walk-in closets, a sitting area, and a large bathroom (as is typical of “luxury” houses), all that can account for a LOT of floorspace. The other bedrooms (aside from the Master) could be fairly ordinary. It’s also possible that the large patio area shown in the photos is counted.

Based on the photos in garjog’s post, looks like I was pretty much spot-on, with the exception of the “great hall” room.
