Psychotropic drugs have been used for the purpose of suppressing fear and enabling murderous rage for a long time. In Dispatches, his extraordinary book about the war in Vietnam, Michael Herr passes this along about the use of drugs by American soldiers:
Going out at night the medics gave you pills. . . . I knew one 4th Division Lurp [Long-Range Reconnaissance Patrol] who took his pills by the fistful, downs from the left pocket of his tiger suit and ups from the right, one to cut the trail, the other to send him down it. He told me that they cooled things out just right for him, that he could see that old jungle at night like he was looking at it through a starlight scope.
Today, many of our children are prescribed the same psychotropic drugs as were given to our soldiers, in the children's case for the treatment of such conditions as ADHD and for psychiatric disorders. In fact, the practice of psychiatry has become in many cases nothing more than a license to distribute powerfully addictive, brain-damaging drugs to our children.
And where illegal drugs such as cocaine and "speed" are often cited for their negative effects, in fact, among the drugs that are often prescribed for ADHD, Ritalin is chemically similar to cocaine and Adderall is a mix of four powerful amphetamines. We're addicting more than ten percent of our children -- overwhelmingly boys -- to these drugs because they have difficulty sitting still and paying attention in class.
And those who aren't prescribed the drugs can purchase them without prescriptions through online drug outlets or from friends. In fact, among many children, using psychotropic drugs has become de rigeur. When their friends are prescribed these drugs, peer pressure dictates that they themselves...

They would certaily have the results of any illegal drugs by now.
I have zero pharmacology or psychology knowledge but based on my little bit of real life experience, I believe Ritalin inhibits a child’s ability to feel empathy.
When I was in school in the ‘60s and ‘70s we had to hide our drugs from our parents, teachers and doctors. Today that’s where kids get them.
We have two nervous systems, the Sympathetic Nervous System which governs Fear, Pain and Anger, and the Parasympathetic Nervous System which governs Love and Pleasure. If a drug is stimulating the Sympathetic NS, then it is hard for that person to experience empathy at the same time. This is an oversimplification, but try Googling those terms.

The Leftwing propaganda machine is firmly entrenched in major media.
I repeat: the Leftwing faction in media is the Country’s greatest threat.
Now for the past thirty years or more, children have been heavily medicated with these psychotropic drugs. And the incidences of young adults going crazy and murdering people has risen dramatically. Correlation does not prove causation, but I'd look very closely at the drug angle.

Something else I have not heard one word of his political affiliation. Every shooting since BO took office has been blamed on the teaparty why not this one? Could it be that the mother was a registered Democrat and that is not news?

I know a few FPs, who refused to mass RX Ritalin and later Adderall, when local teachers wanted intelligent young boys sedated and under control.
In a community not that large, one of these FPs noted, often the teachers trying to get boys on Ritalin, were chronically depressed, and often on antidepressants. They hated teaching any child that challenged them.

Today, when she came home from school, my seventh-grader named three of her friends, and said these three friends all seemed to "not have any understanding of other people's pain."
One of these three attacked my daughter at a post-Christmas party, kneeing her in the back so hard she had a visible bruise. This one is younger than my daughter by a few years.
It seems to me the author has an agenda. He does not explore any other similarities between the shooters or shootings. Many factors should be considered: parental influence and/or abuse, bullying by peers, desensitization to violence through movies & video games, a society wherein feelings trump personal responsibility, etc.
Do doctors over-prescribe drugs to treat ADHD? Certainly. Are those drugs harmful to some and beneficial to others? Absolutely.
I have ADHD and so do my children. I struggled through high school without medication. Back then, ADHD was not often diagnosed or treated. I knew I had trouble concentrating and couldn’t study after school no matter how long I stared at my books but I didn’t know why.
Medicating my children was a LAST resort. We tried everything else first: diet, behavioral modification, coping mechanisms, homeschooling, private school, and many other suggested techniques/solutions. When each of my kids started taking ADHD medication, we saw an immediate and drastic change in their ability to function daily. I do not regret the decision. My kids do not lack empathy for others. In fact, if anything, they are more empathetic and considerate now.
Medication works for some but not others. Indicting medication as the cause of these mass shootings is not the answer.
