Military flyovers are a staple at NASCAR events and at the Daytona 500, but those might become a thing of the past and at other sporting events nationwide due to a substantial amount of military spending cuts.

"If sequestration kicks in, we'll be looking not to support any future NASCAR races," Wendy Varhegyi, the chief of the engagement division for Air Force public affairs, told ESPN.com. The plan would suspend all flyovers in all sports "at least through the end of the fiscal year [Sept. 30]," said Varhegyi.

Military flyovers have been a staple at American sporting events for many years, especially NASCAR. According to the report, Chitwood added a number of fireworks to go off at Thursday's duels to make up for the lack of flyovers. Smith, who is the president of Charlotte Motor Speedway, said there is a chance there will be no flyover for the Memorial Day Weekend Coca-Cola 600.
"It's a great thing to celebrate our country and the military," Smith said. "My kids and a lot of people out there don't know what a National Anthem sounds like without a flyover. It's kind of part of it. It will be sad if it comes down to politicians that we don't have flyovers."

Hight on their list, at this point, has to be to turn the public against the military.

I love the fly overs at NASCAR. They give you goose pimples and make you proud to be an American. Will they be replaced with a parade of muzzies on camels? Wouldn’t surprise me. Nothing does anymore.
I hope the GOP and boner don’t cave to these scare tactics of Obama and the news media. sequester is another fake crisis as was the “fiscal cliff”, “global warming” , “bp oil disaster”( why did the stories vanish so quickly the “decades” of environmental damage . and people don’t question the media.

I agree but since Obama just sent 60 million to Syria, I say keep the dang flyovers. Until this country is 100 percent serious, I say heck with it and watch a great country fall....Obama is a spender and he is getting rid of American pride stuff and replacing it with evil.

He should at least restore the 20 percent pay cut for the workers. Get rid of outdated programs like Sesame Street. Why should one group of people get screwed while the other 300 million get off with zero pain? I sware the Republicans are part of the they vs. them program too but just different characters. I say GROW UP to both sides. John Boehner let his Congress go on an extended vacation while this is going on. The news had all the Congressman walking out of the Congress Building and who do you think they blame????? The Republicans because the Republicans are the majority in Congress and let the journolists video them walking out like that. If nothing else, it was VERY irresponsible to allow that display occur.

AF1...hum, what about that says to me it is a military budget item? Sounds to me it should spend less time in the air to save money. Our Phaeroh and the chabacca can stay at their executive palace instead of jetting about the countryside.
