I thought that is what his fawning 2009 Cairo speech was about?

What's your point? Was a 14 year old boy supposed to oppose the Nazi's? Does he get any credit for escaping from them?

What’s the point of the letter other than more appeasing by the appeaser.

Sounds like boilerplate hooey to me. It’s one step short of the bug letter.

Joseph Ratzinger was a member of Hitler Youth.

As you or I would have most likely been if we had been boys in Europe at that time.

Oh, you mean when he bowed so friggin’ low that I thought he was gonna go prostrate before it was over? Kinda like beta wolves lowering their heads before alphas indicating they are the lower classification and are subservient to the superior ones? Yeah, I remember that. To paraphrase moochelle antionette, “For the first time in my adult life I was really ashamed for my country.” (not really, but you get it)

“Joseph Ratzinger was a member of Hitler Youth.”

From Wikipedia, a brief description of Joseph's Ratzinger’s youth in Germany. Hopefully, you will learn something.

“Ratzinger’s family, especially his father, bitterly resented the Nazis, and his father's opposition to Nazism resulted in demotions and harassment of the family.[23] Following his 14th birthday in 1941, Ratzinger was conscripted into the Hitler Youth—as membership was required by law for all 14-year-old German boys after December 1939[24]—but was an unenthusiastic member who refused to attend meetings, according to his brother.[25] In 1941, one of Ratzinger’s cousins, a 14-year-old boy with Down syndrome, was taken away by the Nazi regime and murdered during the Action T4 campaign of Nazi eugenics.”

Every German youth was a member of the Hitler Youth. It was mandatory.

And they were mean little bastards. In high school, my 7th grade math tercher was a P.O.W. for 19 months. He escaped and was later caught. He said that the Germans assigned some Hitler youth to guard him until the German military could come and get him. He said that they treated him rougher than any German soldier ever had or did.

You mean you think this is fake? Or just meaningless?

I think it gives a little window into the mind of treason, cowardice and weakness. And appeasement; also shows that Chamberlain actually liked what Hitler was doing, not just mere weakness of heart.

I wouldn’t say it was the best movie ever, but the movie “Swing Kids” is probably the best example of showing how things worked as far as pressuring kids to join the HJ.
