It’s called mandatory sentencing.

You guys wanted a standard system that would apply to everyone, equally, under the law.

Judges don’t really have discretion anymore.

Reminds me of the school district in Mew Mexico than announced a policy where white kids would get harsher punishments than minority kids for the same infractions.

holder can come clean and tell the citizens the stats on black crime....how unbelievably violent blacks are and how they account for a huge percentage of crime considering their minority status...

build more prisons...put them...the criminals....away for longer times...

Exactly. And a lot depends on prior records. In North Carolina and I assume many other states, sentences are based on points. Score high - do more time. Holder/Obama, etc. really want a race war. I didn’t used to really believe it, but I’m beginning to. Another crisis to not let go to waste.

It also says nothing about PREVIOUS crimes that these defendants may have committed. If someone has a long record, they also tend to get longer sentences. Heather MacDonald writes about these issues in CityJournal.

Mandatory minimum sentencing is one of the worse laws ever passed.

If it’s true that blacks’ sentences are 20% longer than whites guilty of the same crimes, then Holder is right.
