It would have been fair for the city (i.e., the taxpayers) to pay all of their medical bills and buy them a new truck, including the sales tax, property tax, insurance, and registration fees. However, that’s it. Anything more than that is a shakedown—paid for, of course, by those of us who earn our own way and pay an extortionate amount of taxes to fund such windfalls.
Nope. They’re entitled to punitive damages - and the trigger fingers of the idiots that fired on them.
That's the whole problem. The ones who are the responsible parties in these events are never held to account, it's always the taxpayers.
These perps need to be hit where it hurts, and these ladies to deserve a little "extra" beside medical and a new truck, imo.

You are so wrong, I really just don’t know where to begin.
Firstly, I think that given that the system won’t let the individual idiots be punished here,a few BILLION dollars would be “fair”. That way, the taxpayers, who would absolutely feel it in the wallet, would revolt over these nut jobs with badges.
Secondly, what were these people doing? WORKING, for which they were rewarded with injury and a destroyed truck. Do you think they should write off their lost time and business as a gift to Los Angeles, or just as a “cost of living”?
Thirdly, getting shot is not a paper cut. This was no doubt pretty traumatic, and there will be lasting effects on these people.
