Brokaw Rips White House Correspondents Dinner:We're Versailles [ 2nd Star party since closure ]

For those of you who might not know or care, the White House Correspondents Dinner is an annual orgy of narcissistic self-indulgence where the biggest stars in media, Hollywood, and politics gather to become even more corrupt and insulated than they already are. It is also a decidedly left-wing affair where the media hoot, holler, and applaud as Barack Obama attacks his political opponents, and do the same when Stephen Colbert rips George W. Bush.

In a word, the dinner is a grotesque display of "journalists" yukking it up and slapping the backs of those in power whom they are supposed to hold accountable. Just as grotesque is watching the same gilded media, who protect Obama from his failed economy, celebrate their own corrupt one-percent selves as the poverty they willfully ignore explodes all around them.

Things have gotten so bad that the E! entertainment channel is going to broadcast live from the event tomorrow night, and Tom Brokaw has felt the need to again speak out against it. Last year Brokaw surprised many when he made this statement about the event on "Meet the Press":

He's exactly right.

Our culture tries very hard to demonize "the rich" but I think a lot of people recognize that "the rich" are most often ordinary, hard-working people. There is nothing wrong with being "rich".

What really burns people is to see elitists who don't think ordinary rules apply to them. They have big friends: they know people. They have influence. They can get laws written which give them advantages. They are movers and shakers. Yes, they tend to be rich but more significantly, they are "important".

I think a lot of citizens are coming to hate the "important" people. In the old Soviet system, these folks were called the Nomenklatura.

How many months could the White House tours operate on the cost of this fiasco?

Tom Brokaw complaining about media narcissism is a prime example of the pot calling the kettle black.

The White House Correspondents Assn hosts the gala, and it’s not held at the White House but at a huge DC hotel. It will be FReeped again tomorrow night.

Well put.

Especially when you consider that "important" people produce nothing of value -- only opinions, policy and corruption.

Last year I caught a glimpse of Kathleen Sebellius dressed up in a spaghetti strap number like she was attending the Oscars.

Sheesh.

It seems the distance has done Mr. Brokaw’s focus and clarity some good!

It’s weird how similar the White House Correspondents are to Ernst Rohm’s SA. Kissing der Fuhrer’s @$$ 24 hours a day.

LOL, my first thought as well. What a absolute, utter hypocrite he is.

I’ve seen something like that down here once. Cows got into some green corn stalks ... produced some nasty stuff and it really drew the flies, big nasty flies, .... you might even say networks of flies.

My bosses are rich. They own three businesses that they started. They also give to just about every charity around both personally and from the business. Somehow last year one got overlooked. I was told to write a check for triple of the usual donation this year to make up for it.

They are the type of people that Obama hates and wants to bring down.
