The Boston marathon bombing suspect has added to his legal defense team a prominent death penalty lawyer who has worked on high-profile cases such as the Unabomber and the gunman who killed six and wounded 13, including former Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, in Tucson in 2011.

The counter argument to that is that every defendent should have the rightvto wage a defense as rigorous as his prosecutor will be.
Even if the defendent can’t afford it.
Yup, this guy is as guilty as sin, but this shouldn’t be a sham trial and law enforcement and the prosecutors still need to do their jobs. A good defense lawyer is going to be one who makes them do it. And do it honestly.
Unless caught doing something unethical or illegal, I’m usually willing to give the defense the benefit of the doubt.
I have expected Obama to pardon Lynne Sweet, so that she could defend the guy..
The contempt of the state of Massachusetts and the federal government for the citizens is overwhelming, in the amount of taxpayer money and benefits they have funnelled to the Tsarnaev’s.
I don’t see why he needs an anti-death penalty attorney.

Quite the contrary: Our justice system depends on a level playing field and that means assuring access to a vigorous defense for those accused. I think it is similar to the first amendment test for freedom of speech that demands a defense of speech that may be anathema to my beliefs or values.
When a big-time shyster decides to defend a public defender type case, he should be paid public defender wages.
