Et tu, Kim Strassel? (What happened to this once excellent Wall Street Journal columnist?)
American Thinker ^ | 05/03/2013 | Mark J. Fitzgibbons

Kim Strassel and Dan Henninger of The Wall Street Journal editorial page consistently write some of the best and most insightful conservative editorials in the country.

Ms. Strassel's May 2 installment, however, took Senator Ted Cruz to task, calling his methods "absolutist." She also managed to insult many of us who attempt to roll back bloated and even unconstitutional government, calling us "dishonest."

Yes, we who continuously need to fight in the trenches of our own party take it that way, Kim.

Strassel writes, "The real divisions in today's Republican Party are not so much over ideology as they are over strategy. The GOP is split between those who insist on making a point, and those who want to make some progress."

This is so far off the mark from Ms. Strassel's usually exacting observations that perhaps she deserves a mulligan. But, she deserves to be called out for it by those in the trenches who see on a daily basis Republicans at the federal, state and local levels who either do not understand -- or are willing to easily trade off -- conservative principles.

And that doesn't even factor in Republicans who are openly hostile to conservative principles, not as a matter of strategy, but as a matter of 'ideology.' Call it a blend of progressive and self-serving interests within the GOP, or whatever. There are Republicans who lack conservative principles. They engage in cronyism and government-knows-best politics.

It ain't strategically designed to bring about a limited government, conservative governing agenda. Oh, it's not Obama's politics, but it's not Ronald Reagan's, either.

As a proponent of free speech, I have no problem with someone expressing an opinion different from mine.

The Wall Street Journal and the Weekly Standard are where the elites and the establishment go to either influence or receive influence (see Rubio’s latest piece in the WSJ). Paul Gigot (the “conservative” on the PBS news hour) and Bill Kristol are establishment elites who push people like McCain and Romney and Christie and policies like “comprehensive” immigration reform.

I read news in each once in a while for a laugh, to see the latest being pushed.

Well of course accepting a different opinion is universal, to those of us who can stand tall in our own truth. I believe the point is calling those out who are misrepresenting what it is we ARE standing for. That isn’t a different opinion as much as it is a false interpretation of what is being presented.

Kinda like someone saying I’m a bigot since I don’t accept same sex marriage. Completely void of representing what I believe in, but rather, their opinion of what I stated.

Well good for her. Sarc Let’s see how big and wide her mouth is when she is shipped put on the train to hell with the rest of us. She needs to read her history. New regimes don’t need her. They turn on each other.

I can see where DC denizens, regardless of their employer, politics, geographical origin, etc. would tend to get caught up in the ‘look at all these gleaming buildings and government employees - they have to be doing SOMETHING with them! This is the center of the known universe! And I work here too!’

Therein lies the problem. Even so-called conservatives begin to believe that pork-laden bills the thickness of phone books and an ever-expanding bureaucracy represent ‘progress.’

....”Therein lies the problem.... Even so-called conservatives begin to believe that pork-laden bills the thickness of phone books and an ever-expanding bureaucracy represent ‘progress.’”.....

...the more complex ...the more likely it’s all just a plate of spagetti for juggling the books...and making it too complicated for any to be caught doing their dastardly deeds.

It IS ‘Progress” for the thieves and robbers destroying this nation....it’s their smoke screen.
