Not being a Marine myself, I don't know this. Just asking.

Is a Marine required to follow orders of their CIC that violate their own regulations? If not, then why would they agree to hold the umbrellas?

I think there is an interesting, but disturbing parallel with this incident and the threads that ask “Do you think our military would fire on American citizens?”

You do not have to follow unlawful orders. In this case you are being asked to violate a protocol regulation. It is a wise career move to follow (given he had no time to contact his immediate supervisor) the order unless you want you next duty station to be a lot worse.

It shows the total wussification of our current WH occupier. I am so embarrassed.
