NAIROBI, Kenya (AP) — Police shot dead a couple suspected to be terrorists after they threw four grenades, wounding five officers in an overnight stand-off, a police official said Sunday.

Following a tip, investigators raided the apartment where the couple was staying in the Githurai Kimbo area on the outskirts of Nairobi Saturday evening and ordered them out of their house, said Boniface Mwaniki, the head of the Anti-Terrorism Police Unit.

The couple refused to surrender, threw grenades and used their eight-month-old baby as a human shield, said Mwaniki.

The only difference is he would make sure these Kenyan terrorists would get $100,000 in welfare first.

“...suspected to be terrorists after they threw four grenades...”

Suspected?

After they threw the grenades?

Any other clues, or just this circumstantial evidence?

Terror suspects killed, police officers injured in Nairobi raid

Two terror suspects were killed and six police officers injured on Sunday morning during an operation in Nairobi's Githurai estate.

The two suspects who are a couple were shot dead by police after a 12 hour battle that began at around 10pm on Saturday night.

A senior police officer leading the operation at the couple's residence in Githurai estate together with his five other colleagues were injured after one of the suspects hurled several grenades at them.

The officers stormed the three-storey apartment on Saturday at around 7pm and ordered the residents to get out of the building.

All the residents got out except the couple and their daughter. They moved from their one-roomed house on the ground floor to the first floor and laid in wait.

As the first batch of officers entered the compound, the suspects threw the first grenade that injured six officers, including the Githurai Kimbo OCS. The officers resorted to using live ammunition.

The couple used their 8-month old daughter as a human shield, hoping that the police would be reluctant to attack.

The suspect, Mr Felix Nyangaga Otuko moved into the apartment with his wife believed to be of Somali origin, about two months ago and they rarely interacted with people.

Police recovered parts of four expended grenades and two other grenades.

Kasarani OCPD Augustine Nthumbi said that the child was safe and they were intending to take her to the Child Welfare Department.

The baby, who was also exposed to teargas was taken to hospital for medical attention.

With any luck the baby will be raised by someone other than a Muslim.
