Lisa Jackson, meet Apple.
The biggest piece of new information that Apple CEO Tim Cook dropped last night at the D11 conference: That he's hired Jackson, former head of the Environmental Protection Agency, to lead Apple's green efforts.
The move strikes me as both bold and risky.
It's bold because in Jackson, Cook gains a high-profile and well-connected chemical engineer who is well-versed in policy. Apple's environmental footprint is immense; the company literally produces and packages more than 100 million devices every year, most of them iPhones and iPads.
Apple has the largest non-utility solar power farm in the country, and is one of the biggest customers of Bloom Energy's fuel cell power generation products. If she gets it right, Jackson could be the most influential corporate environmental policy executive in the world.
Which is why the Jackson hire is also risky. Jackson's career and experience has been in government, not Silicon Valley, and Apple's culture has some pretty strong antibodies. For Jackson to be successful, she's going to have to move to Silicon Valley, transform herself into a product-driven executive and spend as much time as possible with Jony Ive, the head of industrial design, and Bob Mansfield, the senior VP of technologies at Apple, from day one.
Former Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Lisa Jackson to join Apple Inc.
She should be in jail.
I wouldn’t hire her as dog catcher.
Expect it’s all window dressing, can’t think what she’d bring to the table short of expertise in creative email addresses.
That's total BS.
Hiring her is basically paying protection money to the Baraqqi regime.
She will travel around on a big expense account and give speeches espousing the progressive agenda.
c’mon Tim, get the damn stock price up!
This hire is Apple’s attempt to keep the administration placated and off their back.
So, Apple has “Village Idiot” as an official job title in their organisational chart?
Tim Cook is learning!
How do you get the government off your back? Hire fugitive democrats. It’s the middle of the end for Apple, but at least it won’t be the government doing the killing.
Just the market.
Smart move on his part. All he has to do is buy and industrial strength shredder and file everything that comes from her office in it.
Hopefully the cognitive dissonance will rip her evil little brain in two.
There are few people as malevolent as Jackson. What she wrought at EPA will straitjacket this country for decades.
She ought to be looking for a file in her multiple chocolate cakes behind bars!
Kinda like when Compuware hired Kwame Kilpatrick for no apparent reason other than stay in with the Detroit city council.
sHE’S A MONEY FUNNEL........
This was done solely to get the fascist Obammunists to get off of Apple’s back and go sniffing around to some other outfit.
Not sure what Job’s would have done if he was still around. Probably not this. Jobs hated bozos.
What name would you like on your paycheck Miss Jackson?
And everyone knows what the real backstory is on this “hiring”.
Well I was contemplating a new smart phone in the near future. I like my iPhone4, but I guess apple is out.
TIM COOK: How do we get rid of our competition?
LISA JACKSON: Easy. Let me get in touch with my White House connections and get the IRS, DHS, EPA, FCC and many others to just hassle them into submission.
