Bag Ban, Fracking Limits Rejected (In California!)
KMJ 580 ^ | May 31, 2013 | Unknown

"A bill that would have phased out single-use plastic bags was rejected by the state Senate Thursday, joining several other failed bids in previous years."

"Defeated three bills to place limits on hydraulic oil and gas drilling, known as “fracking.” One bill would put a temporary moratorium on new drilling until more impact studies are completed. Another would impose safeguards to protect groundwater supplies."

Small lights shining in the black hole called California. Little known though, is that Brown is not a foe of fracking. He knows it's good for the economy and his family made a lot of money off oil. And please, don't think this is a pro Brown post. UmmmmK?

Our city council voted for a bag ban here. Now we’re getting a petition going to put it on the ballot & let the voters decide. Lots of folks are unhappy about it, as well they should be!

a temporary moratorium on new drilling until more impact studies are completed.

Gotta love the NewSpeak term for delay, delay, delay.

Why don't they pass a law to clean up their road sides? I have in-laws in San Diego. Every time we visit I'm amazed and disgusted at how much trash lines the roadways.

For such a “green” conscience state they sure don't care about litter.

Brown does exactly what the unions tell him to do.

hydraulic oil and gas drilling, known as “fracking.”

Said they "journalists" can't be bothered to learn even the basics.

Hydraulic Fracturing is not drilling. It is cracking the rock after the drilling is already done.

Those CA rats with even half a brain look at the economic fracking boom in states like TX, PA and ND and think, “Hey, we can do that, too”.

The moronic city council here in Austin enacted a bag ban a few months ago. A new report out shows a spike in shoplifting as nobody can tell who buys what anymore. This city is run by a few elite left over hippies and left coast transplants who care more about bikes and bums than easing the pain of the citizenry who are over taxed and have the worst traffic in the states. The keep trying to lure people here but do nothing to increase the infrastructure thresholds.

Glad I live a ways outside their influence.

The halogens you can still buy are just as hot, more efficient, and dimmable, and don’t have any circuit boards or mercury.

Bag Ban, Fracking Limits Rejected (In California!)

Even some California liberals are smart enough to realize that they can't have their bloated socialist welfare utopia without some sources of revenue. Better to allow fracking and tax the h*ll out of it...

"Hydraulic Fracturing is not drilling. It is cracking the rock after the drilling is already done. "

Duuuuuddeee! Remember that 99.9% of "journalists" are humanities majors of one sort or another ("journalism", English, liberal arts, etc). Cluelessness about science and technology is absolutely to be expected.

And over my fifty-year perspective of following S&T, things have gotten worse rather than better.

Our city council voted for a bag ban here.

I was in a store yesterday where a guy had them line his cloth carry bag with plastic bags so it wouldn't get dirty.

I would not be too quick to proclaim any glimmer of sanity in Kalifornia.... it is all about money. Not just oil producer money but developers and others with mineral ownership and gains to be made by a drilling boom in Kalifornia. Heck, it may even be the regulators who plan to fleece the industry in burgeoning costs or the unions struggling for relevance. All get to the politicos.

No, I doubt a glimmer or sanity in Kalifornia... I suspect self-serving activity at work.

Voted no until it benefits the unions. Bags made by union workers so it stays.

I was in a tourista trap recently. I think it’s called the Barn. It’s located on Avila Beach Drive a short distance west of Hwy 101. Anyway, when I go there, I buy BAGS of stuff. But it’s a coastal area, and the coastal liberals have banned the plastic bags. The employees don’t like the ban on the plastic bags either, and they do their best to help out the customers.
