In the months since the 2012 elections it has become apparent that the victorious Democratic coalition Obama assembled is still not sufficiently large to overcome the unprecedented Republican obstruction and sabotage of the normal processes of American political life.

"Unprecedented Republican obstruction and sabotage of the normal processes of American political life"? Well I would agree that there has been obstruction and sabotage of the normal processes of American political life, but it's Obama and the 'Rat Pack who are doing it - from the passage of the abominable Obamacare in the dead of night via bribery to the outrages of abuse of power that are coming to light just about every day. Not to mention the pro-Islamist, anti-Western foreign policy.

It's not hard to figure out which side of the political divide the writers of the posted article are on! But they do give us some hope when express doubts about the 'Rats' future electoral success.

The Democrats give the Republicans alot more credit for derailing their progressive/commie schemes than many here at FR do.

Ultimately, I think Reagan got the votes of what came to be called Reagan Democrats by imposing sanctions on Japan. I suspect something similar will have to happen with respect to China and other countries with which we have sizable trade deficits. The GOP needs to show voters that it is not the party of plutocrats. Reagan put in protective trade barriers on semiconductors, cars, motorcycles and machine tools - all highly visible industries that employ masses of people. It is possible to dislike the UAW without hoping for Detroit's destruction. Ultimately, Bush had sounder political instincts than Romney in pushing through a financial bailout for Detroit. Romney crusaded against Detroit's rescue and that ultimately sank his candidacy. The optics of a multimillionaire pushing for the destruction of hundreds of thousands jobs many Americans aspire towards were simply not good - whites stayed home in droves, to the extent that the black turnout exceeded white turnout by 10% in 2012.

By pushing amnesty, the GOP is not only killing its future by importing tens of millions of Democrat-leaning voters - it's driving white turnout even further down, by showing white voters that it not only wants their jobs to go abroad; it also want to replace them with foreign workers right at home.

They did nothing but obstruct Bush. Back then dissent to the President was called “patriotic”.

They’ve come up with a workaround — massive unemployment, forced early retirements, and Death Panels. Thanks justiceseeker93.

Under George W. Bush, the Democrats in the Senate took obstructionism to new heights, filibustering justices, blocking well-qualified candidates just to score ideological points (on behalf of Marxist groups in Latin America, for example), but that was OK with the media because it thwarted Bush.

This morning as I was flipping channels I saw that MSNBC was having a discussion with the caption: "GOP Obstruction in the Senate."

Of course that is in line with one of the current White House talking points.
