If this story has you scratching your head in confusion: Secretary of State John Kerry quietly acted last month to give Egypt $1.3 billion in U.S. military aid, deciding that this was in the national interest despite Egypts failure to meet democracy standards.

Kerry made the decision well before an Egyptian court this week convicted 43 democracy workers, including 16 Americans, in what the United States regards as a politically motivated case against pro-democracy non-governmental organizations. Rights groups believe Egyptian President Mohamed Mursi is retreating from democratic freedoms, notably in a new civil society law and in proposals for judicial reform that critics see as a way to purge judges perceived as hostile to the government.
this story might help make things clear:

Secretary of State John Kerry, speaking at the General Assembly of the Organization of American States in Guatemala on Wednesday, reminisced about his first trip to Latin America as a U.S. senator back in 1985:
I have been traveling, actually, to Latin America for decades now. I think the first trip I made as a United States senator in 1985 was to this region. And that was during a time of great transformation and challenge in places like Nicaragua and El Salvador. And like my Senate colleagues, I was then focused on issues of conflict resolution. I worked particularly closely with President Oscar Arias, working on the peace process back then, as well as on counter-narcotics cooperation and on human rights and on seeking justice for those who had lost their lives in the course of the Central American wars and the internal difficulties of a number of countries during that period.
Kerry did not specifically mention to the OAS gathering that his 1985 trip was to meet with then-president of Nicaragua Daniel Ortega, the head of the Moscow-backed Communist Sandinistas who were fighting a proxy war with the United States via the U.S.-backed Contra rebels.
Canoodling with the bad guys and even siding with them against American interests i.e., treason are reflexive behavior with John Kerry. Thats why Obama made him Secretary of State.
I didn’t now that any one member of the government had the power to just give away taxpayer money? Who approved this?
He’s a communist, and is carrying out the wishes of his boss.
Under U.S. law, for the $1.3 billion to flow the secretary of state must certify that the Egyptian government "is supporting the transition to civilian government, including holding free and fair elections, implementing policies to protect freedom of expression, association and religion, and due process of law."
The legislation, championed by Senator Patrick Leahy, a Vermont Democrat, also gives the U.S. government the ability to waive that condition if it deems this in the U.S. national security interest and provides a detailed justification.
According to the May 9 memo, the U.S. national interests served by the aid include increasing security in the Sinai, helping prevent attacks from Gaza into Israel, countering terrorism and securing transit through the Suez Canal.
"A strong U.S. security partnership with Egypt, underpinned by FMF (Foreign Military Financing), maintains a channel to Egyptian military leadership, who are key opinion makers in the country," Kerry wrote in the memo which was obtained by Reuters.
"A decision to waive restrictions on FMF to Egypt is necessary to uphold these interests as we encourage Egypt to continue its transition to democracy," he added.
I read this as indicating that the Egyptians are threatening to shut down the Suez Canal unless we fork over our money. So of course the cowards at Foggy Bottom and 1600 Penn hand it out to our adversaries. Note also the anti-American hand of that jerk Leahy in all of this.
The Obama administration is using our tax dollars to finance the spread of jihad and to put in place the foundation of the new caliphate.
At home they call muslim terrorism ‘workplace violence’ and pamper militant muslims while using the scare of muslim terrorism to spy on citizens, subject us to body searches, collect our personal information and to persecute veterans, patriots, christians and gun owners.
Obama treats innocent Americans like terrorists and treats muslim jihadis like innocent victims.
Thank you, I missed that. I knew it must be the case, but in this thugocracy we’re living in, I take nothing for granted.
It ain't his money, is it?
You minimize the Obama’s impact.
Obama the Undocumented Liar IGNORED warnings
before the Boston Atrocity and WORKED with Hasan
to murder Americans and then protect the terrorist.
He freed the COLE bombing terrorists and laughed
and hid as a US Ambassador was gang raped before him.
Did y’all see the thread where the Egyptians got caught on a hot mic planning to blow up a dam in Ethiopia the other day?
Does this rise to the level of scandal? Or don’t we have enough bandwidth for another scandal?
Where is the Congress? They control the purse strings and without their approval, this would not happen. Time to call every congress person there is and put a stop to the insanity.
Congress gave the money to Kerry with provisions for Kerry to withhold the money from the Egyptians if certain progress wasn’t made towards democracy. I was hopping mad when congress allocated the money to begin with. A big part of the problem with this country is RINOs. They lack all principles and most are too stupid to realize who our real enemies are. And I mean stoooopid. Give money and arms to the Muslim Brotherhood? F’n stoooopid.
With Congressional consent....
Odd how he missed that...
