Grief grips a McKeesport family: Three brothers die from gun violence over a dozen years
Pittsburgh Post-Gazette ^ | June 16, 2013 | Moriah Balingit

The surviving members of this family -- Lueana Coward and her three daughters -- now live with grief that's difficult to fathom.

Lueana... was pregnant at 13 and had a second child three years later. She moved out on her own at 16... Introduced to cocaine in the late 1970s, she continued to use the following decade.

So in 1992, shortly after the birth of her youngest son, Don, she began using crack cocaine. Lueana's habit grew to $300 a day. She sold her nicest clothes -- dresses of leather and suede -- and jewelry. She sold her blinds and living room furniture.

Obviously it’s the guns’ fault.

I believe I may have identified the problem...

This kind of grief is particularly acute in the black community, which suffers a disproportionate amount of violence.

Because Dad was never in the picture and because Mom is a $300 a day crack whore.

The problem can be fixed -- but not by me. This isn't Whitey's fault, and Whitey can't be fixin' it for ya.

Harry's murder was a moment that marked a shift in her family's history, one already wracked by substance abuse, violence, crime and trips in and out of foster homes. When Lueana Coward's oldest son was buried, it was like the tip of the first domino.

Within a dozen years, James and Don would be dead, shot like their brother for reasons that the family has never untangled.

I think there just might be a few contrbootin factors that should be obvious to the most casual of readers here.

This is certainly a tragedy but not the one the author seems to think it is.

The ruin of her family is merely the inevitable resolution of something that was initiated probably before the unfortunate lady was even born.

“She sold her nicest clothes — dresses of leather and suede — and jewelry. She sold her blinds and living room furniture.”

So this covers less than 1/10 of her daily habit, where did the rest of her drug habit income come from over the past several years. I live less than 10 miles from this cesspool and I can tell you that nothing good comes from McKeesport. Used to be a thriving city that attracted shoppers from miles away.

All one has to do is listen to the Chicago police scanner on any night to see what the issue is. The left has created a new plantation and it is being controlled by “black male in hoodie” as I hear on the scanner so often.

If we implemented the fair tax and then taught some of these folks how to start and run a business it would begin to solve these problems. But that won’t happen because people like Obama don’t want urban blacks to be anything other than what they are. Obama does not care about the plight of blacks or he would have tried to solve some of these urban black issues. Instead he has pitted race against race. Obama had the chance to be one of the greatest presidents of all time but unfortunately he is not much more different than the wretched people written about here...

Most likely, she was a crack whore, who rented her body to men and let men do whatever they wanted to her. They didn’t state that in the article, but it is common for female addicts to turn to prostitution.

I worked in McKeesport at the tail end of the “good old days” when the mill was still working. It was falling apart then and I can only imagine that it’s gotten worse since. Jack Kemp said if you wanted to design a system to ruin families you couldn’t do much better than our public assistance programs.

From what little I’ve seen of their “plight” I’m not sure I have much sympathy.

If she was a prostitute in McKeesport, she would have had to be turning about 200 tricks/day to feed her $300/day crack habit. Not much time left for parenting.

It is obviously a drug and addiction problem. The guns are ancillary. In a gun free society it would have been ropes and knives and the like.

So ironically fitting for Father's Day, this article.

In 2012, Allegheny County tallied 97 homicide victims. Of that, 73 were black men and boys and another six were black women.

They don't say how many of the killers were black, but then they don't have to say. The whole article is about the fecklessness and sorrow of the black underclass. It's not the guns that killed those boys. If there were no guns in the world at all, someone would have stabbed them or beat them over the head - perhaps they'd have survived those attacks, perhaps not.

She moved out on her own at 16

Not quite. On the taxpayer's dime, maybe, but not on her own.

When are they going to figure out that rap isn't a good choice if they want a future?

All three of Lueana Coward's sons were shot to death. Now she and her daughters struggle to cope with the fallout of the shootings.

Another stellar example of 0dumb0's & Holder's people. What fine examples of exemplary ghetto (da' hood" citizens! /s

The GREAT news with this is that we have 3 less criminal thugs to prey on society and then mooch off the taxpayers with 0dumb0's free housing, free food, free cell phones. They're in torment right now, where they should be, complete with pain & agony, wailing, weeping, knashing of teeth & utter darkness.
