Yes, Virginia, America WAS once FREE.
We are about just a few days away from celebrating Americas birthday, the Fourth of July. Once again, we will be celebrating a fraud.
The movement to enslave America and make her citizens serfs to the state began on an April day in 1865 at a little place called Appomattox Court House, Virginia. From that point on in our history Americans lost freedom after freedom, liberty after liberty through a process known as incrementalism.
Dishonesty from politicians is nothing new for Americans. The real question is whether we are lying to ourselves when we call this country the land of the free.
In the Article Professor Turley says:
Even as we pass judgment on countries we consider unfree, Americans remain confident that any definition of a free nation must include their own the land of free. Yet, the laws and practices of the land should shake that confidence.
Professor Turley goes on to enumerate a few of the ways we Americans have lost so much of our liberty to the state such as: Assassination of U.S. citizens, Indefinite detention, Arbitrary justice, Warrantless searches, War crimes, Secret court, Immunity from judicial review, Continual monitoring of citizens, and Extraordinary renditions.
Professor Turley points out: An authoritarian nation is defined not just by the use of authoritarian powers, but by the ability to use them. If a president can take away your freedom or your life on his own authority, all rights become little more than a discretionary grant subject to executive will.
Since 9/11, we have created the very government the framers feared: a government with sweeping and largely unchecked powers resting on the hope that they will be used wisely, says Professor Turley.

That was MY Americaand it is the America I miss sorely
I’ll be out of the country, and I’m in no mood to celebrate right now.
I no longer fly my American flag, because it now represents a Sodom and Gommorah that is antithetical to the America I once new. I have the memories of the Greatness that this country once was, and that will have to suffice. I now consider myself an enemy of this unrecognizable country.
I don’t care, NSA, come and get me.
Bullspit.
Most of my flags were growing faded from direct sunlight. I’ve been using them up since I bought about 30 of them a few years ago. I’ve been burning each of them per statute, as it’s not technically legal (or proper) to just trash them.
I haven’t bought replacements, and I won’t until America returns to its roots.
I have a feeling there will be a lot of flag shops going out of business as more Americans take this tack.
Don’t think NSA/DHS aren’t taking names and addresses. Last fall, my brother who lived in St. Louis (since moved) had a black union member (self-identified) come to his door and ask if he wanted to help support Obama’s reelection...he said “I am not an Obama supporter”.
The woman stopped, and walked over to his car...and wrote down the license plate number.
Don’t think these people are not keeping score.
bflr
I don’t celebrate “Independence” Day anymore. These days, those celebrations come off as more mockery than festivity.
i fly either the old civillian flag, or the gadsden.
That is because it is no longer Independence Day celebration. Everyone celebrates the 4th of July now. Independence has been forgotten. The imperial federal government saw to that.
Pray for the conversion of America to Christ.
Revolt is coming, mark my words.
“As an ordained U.U. Reverend, I suggest not fireworks, but sackcloth and ashes for this Fourth of July!”
