Legal Insurrection Poll: After Trial's First Week, 94% Say Zimmerman Is Winning His Defense Trial
Legal Insurrection ^ | Saturday, June 29, 2013 | Legal Insurrection

Legal Insurrection seems the type of site that's likely to attract quite a few lawyer types. So it is interesting and probably quite informative that after the first real week of George Zimmerman's trial, and after 816 votes, 94% of those who've voted say they believe George Zimmerman is winning his self-defense case.

31 people, less than 4%, have expressed the opinion that the prosecution is winning the case, with another 2% or so not sure.

Completely unscientific, of course, and not necessarily a reflection of what the jury will do in either case.

Still, I personally think it's a good indication of how things are going.

“The Divine One” faced with massive nation wide riots, looting, killings, rapes etc. can declare martial law and be the first in history to suspend the constitution-something not ever done even during the Civil War. He can then stay in office indefinitely. I put nothing past the clown in the Presidency and his masters.

The ladies of the jury know that Rachel is no lady. They will also give more weight to the testimony of a uniformed officer or detective, and if that testimony is favorable to Zimmerman, they will be more likely to acquit.

I have put Nancy Grace in the Jerry Rivers and Kenyan Obama category. Repulsive, unwatchable, and not worth listening to.

“I’m sure you would have gotten a similar result during the OJ trial.”

That’s exactly what I was thinking. It all depends on if the jury is willing to nullify, as in OJ’s case.

PapaBear3625 ~:” It doesn’t matter what the public thinks. It’s only what the jury decides that matters.”

That’s true for Zimmerman’s immediate future .
Acknowledging the liberal bias of the media , I think that defense team needs to keep an ear for how the media reports the court decision.
After all , it was the media that racialy profiled the case, which caused political injection, and caused national notariety.
Hopefully , they have law suits already planned with blank spaces to fill in the names of media defendants.
Thanks to media bias reporting , Zimmerman is already ‘dead man walking’ , regardless if found guilty, or as I expect , innocent. For self-survival purposes , he needs annonimity or high security ( and that gets expensive).

Nancy Grace is a complete low life who shouldn’t be allowed near a camera. Her actions during the Duke lacrosse nonsense have completely discredited her forever.

Jon Stewart’s lambasting her over this is worthwhile to watch:

"This after only the prosecution has presented its side. I don’t think the defense has put on its side yet."

Yes, but it's the prosecution's side! That's when guilt looks the strongest, when the advocate for guilt has presented their case. The defense isn't going to try to make guilt look MORE likely.

"I’m sure you would have gotten a similar result during the OJ trial."

No you wouldn't, it would have been closer. More importantly don't treat guilty and not guilty opinions equally. The OJ jury only had to have some doubt to find him not guilty. For a guilty verdict Zimmerman's jury must find him so beyond a reasonable doubt, unanimously. That's a much much bigger leap if 94% of observers think Zimmerman is winning the case. (I realize it is a non-scientific poll. One of those votes is mine.)

LOL ... I have never watched Stewart, not even for 10 seconds.
But if his shows are routinely as good as this one, I'll have to pay more attention to him. Thanks for the link. LOL ...

Within your view, there is an underlying assumption that crime is not epidemic where they live and they thus won’t feel fearful that predators there will not become even more bold if they can no longer be confronted.

I do not believe that assumption (which is a necessary one for your assertion to have merit) fits in well with Florida as it stands today.

Two of the jurors are new to the area. The other four have been there a while.

He’s not the least bit conservative and often says stuff you probably wouldn’t like. I know that’s the case for me. But he is at least somewhat even-handed from time to time, and can go against the prevailing PC winds, as seen here.

The people who read Legal Insurrection would be about 95% believing the trial is proving Z's innocence.

As with the OJ trial, tt's the jury that counts. I hope they go 100% for him.

The poll agrees with my own assessment that assuming the case is judged on its merits, the prosecution is losing, and losing badly.

It's a pity there's such a great likelihood this won't be decided on its merits.

Its never a good sign when the prosecution’s case resembles the defense case. So in effect Zimmerman’s team gets to present their defense case twice.

I hope they deliberate 45 minutes before coming back with a verdict of “not guilty,” and then publicly state that based on the evidence, there doesn’t seem to have ever been a case, and that the only crimes seem to have been that 1) Trayvon Martin viciously attacked George Zimmerman, and 2) that the court case was ever brought.

Bring back Rachel and the hoop earrings. Best witness in history (for the other side).
