New wonder drug matches and kills all kinds of cancer — human testing starts 2014

By MICHAEL BLAUSTEIN Last Updated: 2:03 PM, July 11, 2013 Posted: 12:55 PM, July 11, 2013

Stanford researchers are on track to begin human trials of a potentially potent new weapon against cancer, and would-be participants are flooding in following the Post’s initial report on the discovery.

The progress comes just two months after the groundbreaking study by Dr Irv Weissman, who developed an antibody that breaks down a cancer's defense mechanisms in the body.

A protein called CD47 tells the body not to "eat" the cancer, but the antibody developed by Dr Weissman blocks CD47 and frees up immune cells called macrophages — which can then engulf the deadly cells.

Serious professionals that advocate holistic cures are intimidated into keeping their mouth shut.

I'll tell you what...you show me a holistic cure that can prove its merits with more that just anecdotes "from satisfied customers," and I might believe the worth.

When you say things like the "cancer industry being a total and complete sham," do you realize how silly you sound? I can tell you from personal experience that despite the potential for insidious and devastating side effects, medical advances for some forms of cancer are remarkable. Yes, there are very few cures for cancer, and by its nature, there's always the possibility of it re-emerging in the body. But, there are advances in drug therapies, such as the use of monoclonal antibodies, that target specific cancers. Use of these "mabs" greatly reduces side effects, and has a better outcome for the patient. But to you, I'm sure that's just "witch doctoring."

“It may be available in twenty years”

So true. Getting any new drug past the FDA takes forever.

Consider this, suppose that a buggy maker develops an internal combustion engine, then looks around and says wow they buggy industry is huge and I own 10% of that market so I am going to bury this invention and continue to enjoy 10% of this market forever.

That buggy maker is going to want 100% of the new internal combustion engine business. He is going to patent the invention and bring it to market as fast as he can. He is going to try to bury the buggy market with his invention.

Back in the early 90’s, there was a huge new growth market in clot buster medications. There was going to be billions in it, the big question was which of the two products was going to take over the world. The entire industry collapsed rather suddenly with the introduction of improved angioplasty.

There is no star chamber deciding what to bring to market to protect the industry as a whole. If somebody has a cure for cancer (not that easy by the way), they are going to bring it to market, forget the money involved, consider the fame.

Big pharm is a construct of the left, there isn’t one company that wouldn’t jump at the chance to squash a competitor with a better product given the chance.

So does this mean Angelina Jolie shouldn't go through with her preventative mastectomy? Oh wait...

I don't know, what do YOU think? And why did you feel the need to bring Angelina into this conversation anyway?

Aren't you hopeful that this may indeed be a breakthrough in the war against cancer?

Drug testing was almost miraculous, but it was sold to another company, then another, and that slowed it down. Who knows what’s happening now.

Since you're the poster of this miraculous whatever, why don't you google it and provide us with the follow-up research.........

...ou show me a holistic cure that can prove its merits with more that just anecdote Allopathic medicine has few answers and will not allow any other prospects to get the proper testing and trials done. Even if privately funded, the trials must stand up to FDA scrutiny.

I'm not concerned how silly I sound because it doesn't matter anyway as long as there are people out there like you with a closed mind and a singular view of medicine - that being an allopathic Western view. What folks like you need to realize is that modern medicine is but a tiny sliver of medical knowledge and history. There are tried and true treatments for numerous disease ignored by modern medicine at their own peril. I laugh at their arrogance and ignorance.

I have seen the cancer industry up close and personal, and I'm here to tell you whether you believe it or not, they are not at all interested in a cure. Oncologists know nothing of nutrition, so how could they possibly advocate that path?

I've seen with my own eyes and heard with my own ears the cries from doctors who want to advocate alternative treatments only to be shut down or threatened with license revocation. I have personally been intimidated and so have family members.

Some of the advances may be remarkable, but the approach is all wrong. Cancer is a whole body problem, not a targeted problem. The goal of the cancer industry is indeed profits and the focus is for certain not healing.

Most, not all, cancer is due to a compromised immune system. We all grow cancer cells all the time, but stronger immune systems can eradicate the scourge. The lesser issue in a nutshell is acidosis and oxygen depravation. Cancer cannot live in an alkaline or aerobic environment. A healer must treat the whole body and help it do what it is designed to do.

I do not see allopathic doctors as "Witch Doctors" by any stretch of the imagination. By and large they are the best and brightest caught up in a seriously corrupted system. They know only what they've been trained to know in Medical School. And in Medical School treating the body as a whole is not a priority, if even approached (wasn't for me).

big pharm either will grab it for profit , or squash it if they feel they cant get enuff..

I see you've accepted the liberal mantra, big Pharms = bad........

Why don't you focus on the government instead that would jail an American doctor who would dare to import cheaper chemo drugs from Canada rather than pay the going price of the same drugs here in the U.S. which our own govt. won't reimburse in full under the medicare program.......

I truly doubt that any of us will see the miracle Cancer cure drug in our lifetimes. The reason being that if it is as touted, it would wipe out the entire Cancer treatment industry which is hundreds of billions of dollars in size. That would destabilize the economy and therefore be politically unpopular in the extreme. The world might be ready for the cure medically, but certainly not politically nor economically, IMHO.

“if it works and cures, fantastic, but beware big pharm....”

Just like the Fish carburetor that supposed to yield 100 mpg but was bought by the oil companies (sark)

Hope you are doing better and I am glad everything has gone well it seems. My mother has inflammatory breast cancer and fighting it right now so I am quite interested in stories like these.

So far so good, I am clean. My mother was dieing from breast cancer that had moved into a brain tumor when I was diagnosed. Made it all even harder since I had been caring for her.
Good luck to you and your mother.

Between clinical trials, corporate aquisitions, etc., the road from the lab to FDA approval can be a long and winding one. Ten years is probably closer.

If tobacco is still around the ACS will be out there looking to pull up the plants. So much has been spent on commercials instead of research, it is pathetic. If the tobacco settlement money had gone to look for cures instead of to (primarily) dorky advertisements, bureaucrats, and golf courses, maybe we'd be there by now.

One thing is certain: I don't know of a dime which went to defray the costs of a patient whose medical costs could be traced to tobacco.

thats why i advocate natural medicine that cant be regulated by the fda, or taken over by big pharm...

Good if it works.

Big pharm isn't going to tout anything which can't be patented, otherwise, there's no profit in it.

Alternative medicines, aren’t alternatives, they are what didn’t work before actual medicines came along.

Or what worked but cannot be patented.

I would wager most of the increase in human lifespan can be attributed to better sanitation, cleaner air and water, better hygiene, better dental care, and general technology (not having to work hard in the fields every day). Pharma gets a nod for antibiotics.

Pharma gets a few more nods for high BP, heart disease, cancer, anti-venums, inoculations (small pox, measles, polio, etc), tetanus, anti-fungal, coagulants, anti-coagulants, control of allergic reactions, insulin, antihistamines, plasma, anti-diarrheals, etc.
All of the above save lives and that doesn’t get started on quality of life issues.
