(CNSNews.com) - Political commentator Charles Krauthammer said the record of outgoing Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano was that "the underwear didn't explode."
When discussing the announcement of Napolitano’s resignation on Special Report with Bret Baier on Fox News on Friday, political analyst for Fox News Juan Williams offered a defense for her tenure:
“Can I just offer one contrary note, which is under her tenure we've had no attacks, we've been safe as Americans—
"Fort Hood," Bret Baier interrupted.
"We've had no attacks--I mean she has managed this, to me, very well,” Williams said. “They're now looking at people like Bill Bratton, the former Police Chief in New York, Ray Kelly the current police Chief in New York, people like that.”
“And the idea would try to be to downplay some of the tensions between FBI, Justice and Homeland Security,” he said. “But you have to say if you look back on her record, I think she did a pretty good job.”

Krauthammer was referencing the attempted terrorist attack on Christmas Day 2009, where Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab failed to detonate his underwear bomb on Northwest flight 253, which was carrying nearly 300 people.
Abdulmutallab's father had warned the U.S. Embassy in Nigeria that he was concerned his son was planning a terrorist attack, but he was not put on a no-fly list.
In 2010, 13 Americans were killed and 40 were wounded when Major Nidal Hassan opened fire yelling “'Allahu Akbar,” or “God is great” in Arabic, at the military base Fort Hood. The government, however, still considers the shooting “workplace violence.”
Earlier this year, the U.S. suffered another terrorist attack with the Boston Marathon bombings, which killed three and injured at least 264.
Napolitano announced her resignation on Friday, after serving as DHS Secretary since 2009. She will leave the department in September to become the next president of the University of California.

Good riddance for the U.S. citizens, too bad for the Univ. of Calif. and California residents.
She did such a stellar job not enforcing the immigration laws already on the books she’ll do a fine job allowing illegals to enroll in the UC system for the same cost as taxpaying CA residents. Hell they might even get grants that never have to be repaid.

Where DHS is really failing in their mission is allowing massive numbers of illegals live freely in the United States. A large portion of the drug trafficking in this country has been taken over by Mexican gangs. Those gangs have also conducted campaigns to scare blacks out of neighborhoods in LA. Farming communities that had employed illegal labor for decades are now paying a price as Mexican gangs have moved into those areas bringing their associated crime. All Americans are less safe because Napolitano and her boss want to protect illegals.
