Popular former Gov. Brian Schweitzer said Saturday morning that he will not run for Montana's open U.S. Senate seat in 2014, an announcement that complicates Democratic efforts to retain their majority in next year's elections.
Schweitzer told The Associated Press that he doesn't want to leave Montana and go to Washington, D.C.

Third, who are the Republicans going to put in place of the Obamacare supporter Max Balk-us?

The state receives more money from the Feds than we pay in federal taxes. A majority of the folks here depend at least indirectly on the Federal Government for their livelihood whether it is the ranchers getting farm subsidies, professors and teachers getting Federal education subsidies, construction workers working on road jobs that are nearly 100% funded by the Feds, state government employees dependent on Federal matching funds, pentagon spending to maintain the missiles, not to mention the the hundreds of thousands of retirees on Social Security and various federal pensions.
Montanans like folks everywhere vote in their own self interest. Who ever is elected will need to reassure the voters here that he/she is not a threat to those Federal dollars.
It looks as if Corey Stapleton will be the nominee, although he isn’t raising as much as his opponents, he’s polling better than them.
He’s a pretty solid conservative from what I’ve heard. Perhaps not a Ted Cruz, but maybe a Richard Shelby.
