It is a 20% pay cut - even nurses and caregivers at military hospitals are affected. Even the nurses at Walter Reed caring for combat wounded are furloughed.

The lowly paid GS-05 mechanic is furloughed. These people work for this nation - they are not like the Food Stamp and SSDI takers. Yet, they are the ones punished.

There is also a huge, massive "brain drain" that has already occurred in the defense industry. Very skilled researchers and engineers have either left or are leaving.

The overall effect on the economy will be profoundly negative, not to mention the immorality of all of this.

Sequestration exempts Entitlements, but steals from those who get up each day and work for a noble cause.

And you will not hear one peep on MSM about this either. Just like how the glazed over Congress exempted themselves from NObamaCare too.

That’s really depressing. I used to work for the Navy Exchange in the 80s, and my dad was a career civilian employee of the Dept. of the Navy (after his WW2 service). I can well imagine the people this is affecting.

Sorry, but it is NOT a 20% annual pay cut. It’s a 20% pay cut over the summer, which works out to maybe a 4% annual pay cut.

Imagine the howl of racism if a 20% to foodstamps were inacted.

We were told to expect 22 days of furlough beginning October until the 22 days are done. It is a shame and you are right that the GS-5 and 6’s are the ones really being hurt by this. The biggest problem is that you cannot attract people who are professional to work at the Naval Academy and other places if you tell them how much they will be paid and then say “Oh 20 percent will be subtracted from that total”. I know we have a hiring freeze right now but with all the retirement eligible people still hanging on, something is going to happen and it won’t be pretty. I can see it now. The retirees get frustrated.....the newbies get laid off and then nobody will be part of the DOD which some here would appreciate, but it would not be good. I am waiting for the contractors to get hit....they have been safe SO FAR....that won’t last.

You are correct, in all your assertions. Why would a President of the United States of America, employ such actions? Treason, is my only answer. High Treason, is when cooperation between separate branches of US Gov’t, are purpose driven to usurp the US Constitution, and the will of the People. Mr. Hagel is a mere errand boy, in the last twenty five years of Our decline. Someone to complain about, no doubt. Yet, the rot lies much deeper, than these present circumstances. Not much to be done, currently- except to ride it out.
