The Environmental Protection Agency will require oil refiners to blend 16.55 billion gallons of renewable fuels into the nations gasoline supply this year as part of its efforts to spur new fuel technology and decrease fossil fuel dependence.
Nearly eight months past the legal due date, the EPA announced its yearly blending targets under the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) on Tuesday. Renewable fuel associations applauded the announcement, but the oil and gas industry criticized the agency for continuing to push a broken system.
The EPAs blending requirements include 6 million gallons of the cellulosic biofuel, which is made from woodchips. That number is down from the 14 million gallons called for in January.
The cellulosic biofuel requirement has angered the oil industry for years because, until this year, there was no commercial production of the advanced fuel in the country.
The EPA targets will require a total of 36 billion gallons of biofuel to be blended by 2022.

The list, Ping
Let me know if you would like to be on or off the ping list
Is that twice the per annum consumption?
Where do these Marxist piggies get their authority to do this?
Wonder what this will do to engines? Ruin them? Oh well. Buying new ones will help “stimulate” the economy. [/s]
Impeachment File on Benghazi Coward B. Hussein Obama, formerly known as Barry Soetoro, currently a Legal Citizen of the Sovereign Nation of Indonesia.
In other news, EPA also mandates the installation of warp drives on all vehicles.
And those people who buy the stuff at $8 a gallon have a bumper sticker saying “Bio-Fueled” so you can feel sorry for them.
The epa is a broken record, who by some dint of misguided government continues to be played over and over.
We need (ed) to break the hold of foreign oil- not oil per se.
The greens seized the initial mission and perverted it as is their wont.
It transmogrified into an unachievable, unrealistic counterproductive energy “strategy” that has us going down a rabbit hole.
The way out is clear to anyone with half a brain.
Rock on USA, drill, frack, build pipelines, mine coal,- do what you got to do, aggressively. Spread your wings offshore into international waters. Dare anyone to jack with us.
In the meantime- mine those alternative sources WHERE THEY MAKE SENSE, promote LED’s etc.
It’s like Reagan and the arms race; only its the energy race- the key to power, productivity and FREEDOM.
We're reducing our reliance on imported energy the old fashioned way--one oil well at a time.
I am stunned they reduced cellulosic from a billion to six million. I would have expected the EPA to do more wishful thinking by raising it to two billion.
Democrats hate the poor. Burning food raised food costs for those least able to afford it. Why do Democrats hate the poor?
Now if they can only find a way to reduce food reliance.
Well now lessee what this does to the price of fuel for our cars here in the valley. Looks to be about $5.59 a gallon, which is just about what the anus orifice in the White Hut was saying he wanted the fuel prices to become a few years ago.
The EPA requires oil companies to add/blend in millions of gallons of cellulosic biofuel (just as ethanol is required).
But up to very recently, no cellulosic biofuel was available as no co. had a workable production process. So, the EPA levied fines on the oil companies, which they had to pay and pass on in high fuel costs to us. Now some cellulosic biofuel is being made, but still not enough, nor will the mandated gallons ever appear. So, the EPA again raised the mandated gallon amounts.
Crazy, but not when the real aim is to stop us from using cheap and convenient petroleum to get from one place to another. Also, the aim maybe to wreck our economy and turn us into a socialist failure on the level of Cuba or Zimbabwe.
I guess the laws only apply to us commoners...
For these words alone are the reason the EPA needs to go away
