Using technology designed to protect U.S. troops, a Maryland company that makes bulletproof whiteboards has contracted with a university seeking to offer its professors greater protection in the event of a school shooting.
The University of Maryland-Eastern Shore announced that it is purchasing 200 of the whiteboards from Hardwire LLC, a company based in Pocomoke City, Maryland, citing the need for a heightened sense of security in the wake of deadly mass shootings in recent years.
More recently, the company has adapted technologies for school security, most notably the lightweight, 18-by-20-inch bulletproof whiteboards designed to protect the user's head and torso.

What are they going to do, have the prof hide behind a whiteboard, while his 50 students are being shot by a crazed killer?!
At least the whiteboards will survive the onslaught.
Don’t you stand in FRONT of a whiteboard? They hang flat against the wall. Someone has figured out how to flim flam the school system.
The idea is that the prof will tell the crazed killer —
“Pardon me, sir, could you please wait until I take the board off the wall and hold it in front of me for protection, before you aim your gun at me.”
And naturally the killer will oblige him...
(/sarc)
Is this before or after the killer obliges the gun-free zone sign?
Is this before or after the killer obliges the “no murder” law?
” In the ten minutes before he was shot and paralyzed, Hasan fired approximately 150 shots.

...”several witnesses have said the gunman wielded his weapon with grim efficiency, reloading in clean, quick motions” quickly enough, that is, to prevent soldiers running at him with tables and chairs from doing any harm.”
Of course, if everyone else had been armed with actual weapons, it would have turned out very differently.
Can a class of 30 fit behind a whiteboard?
Without being seen or heard by the gunman?
If this is so effective, why doesn’t the Secret Service carry a whiteboard wherever they go?
I have a better idea - why not equip each classroom with a hole in the ground that the profs could crawl into if a crazed killer comes around?
(Answer: the prof couldn’t tell it from his you-know-what!
REALLY??
the secret service and a WHITE...board?
isnt that a bit RACESS?
Unless the whiteboards can shoot back, you’re still SOL.
You’re right. A totally defensive strategy will only work for just so long. In the case of a whack job shooting in a lecture hall, if properly employed the white board will probably extend one person’s life by 15, maybe even 30 seconds. One trained and armed person could end the entire event in the same amount of time.
what about protecting the students who are the reason for the place and whose suffering parents pay the professors obese salaries
look at the locations of the college and of the company making the whiteboards, this is more a story of local graft than anything else.
The bulletproof whiteboards may be good products, though it would look less suspicious if there were more customers than the nearest college with some extra money in their budget. In an active shooting situation, they’d certainly be better than nothing to use as a barrier to allow a classroom to break contact with an advancing shooter. Hardening defenses is usually also cheaper in the long term than hiring security personnel, and if society isn’t interested in institutionalizing the dangerously mentally ill, making your target less appealing isn’t a bad tactic.
Whiteboard?? That little thing you write on? BFD!
Of course !! Students are replaceable, but you need to put massive effort and expense into compressing enough B.S. into the skulls of faculty, without their skulls exploding. . . (evil grin)
I do like shields, but the problem is not having a pistol with you.
In the 1980s when I was really into this stuff, I liked some of the expensive items available for those who could afford them, bullet proof everyday items, like umbrellas and briefcases.
I heard this on the radio (sort of local) and wondered how it was usable.
THEN they said how SMALL they are and I’m wondering, what the heck is the point of small “whiteboards” (nee chalkboards)? Why have small boards in school? Does this mean each stupid kid gets his own?
Talk about blind stupidity....here it is.
Mass panic by the gerbils of liberalism.

Think you nailed it they want to protect the professor’s.
