Casting an eye toward upcoming fiscal fights, President Barack Obama warned Republicans Friday against trying to defund his signature health care law as he vowed to protect spending on education, scientific research and America's infrastructure.
Taking questions from college students in central New York, Obama decried the Republican approach as "penny-wise and pound-foolish," predicting the U.S. will fall further and further behind other nations in decades to come unless it prioritizes creating opportunities for young people.
"When Congress gets back to Washington, this is going to be a major debate," Obama said during a town hall at Binghamton University.
He said it's the same debate he and lawmakers have been having for two years; the difference now is that the U.S. has made progress in cutting deficits.
"My position is going to be that we can have a budget that is sensible, that doesn't spend on programs that don't work, but does spend wisely on those things that are going to help ordinary people succeed," Obama said.
These and other testy issues will come to a head in the fall, when Congress will face deadlines to increase the federal government's borrowing limit and to continue funding the government.
Obama reserved some of his harshest comments for GOP lawmakers seeking a government shutdown over his health care law, arguing that those lawmakers are not offering an economic plan. More than a third of House Republicans are urging their leader to take such a step this fall.
Instead, those lawmakers should focus on the "pocketbook, bread-and-butter" issues that affect Americans, Obama said...

I wish that was possible but the democrats still control the senate.
The gop will not get out in front of it because boehner has already stated that he has every intention of funding everything in a CR. He may not allow the levels to rise but the present spending is going to be maintained because boehner is a statist and wants big government.

Last night Levin reported that Boehner has stated that he won’t defund it. Levin said we should now call it Boehnercare.
If Boehner had a set of balls he would warn Obama about shutting down the government and tell him hell would freeze over before funding for Obamacare was approved but everything else would go through.
But then Boehner is a surrender monkey with no balls.
0bama warned Assad not to use chemical weapons. 0bama huffed and puffed about crossing a red line. Assad called 0bama’s bluff. What happened? 0bama did nothing.
Because that is an extremely smart move, Boner and company will never consider it.
Of course they are not able to handle the whole ‘race card’ angle that would be attached to it, as well as the ‘partisan’ and ‘extreme’ screeching that would come from liberals in govt and the media.
They have zero idea on how to just deal with it, take the arrows, and do it.

Partial Government control is Socialism.
There is partial Liberty with Socialism.
Total Government control is Communism.
There is no Liberty with Communism.
Conservatives are dedicated to conserving Liberty.
The Federal politicians who support whole or partial Government control are either Socialists or Communists.
Conservatives should not donate money or time to these Socialists or Communists.
Note to GOP: You know the guy’s record on “red lines.” Go ahead. Call his bluff.

Well then Obama can whine to the Senate that their inaction is RESPONSIBLE FOR SHUTTING DOWN THE GOV’T!!!
Split the CR into separate segments and pass them one at a time to be signed. Poison pill those he might not sign, and just don’t send one for deathcare.
Tragically, there are way too many repubs that actually want to fund obamacare. That’s the rub.
