CLEARWATER — There was a Jeykll and Hyde quality to Thursday's court proceedings, where three 15-year-old boys pleaded guilty to beating a 13-year-old student on a school bus last month.
The boys appeared remorseful and respectful, their heads sometimes bowed.
It was all “Yes, sir” and “No, sir,” sometimes in unison, as Circuit Judge Raymond Gross painstakingly asked them a series of questions after their attorneys announced the trio would be pleading guilty in the July 10 beating.
But then Assistant State Attorney William Schopper asked that the video of the attack — the one that's gone viral and turned the Gulfport school bus assault attack into a national story — be shown before Gross decided on a punishment......
The July 10 assault followed an incident at Lealman Intermediate School, where the teens were in summer school. McKnight tried to sell the victim marijuana, and Reddin was there, too. He refused and told school administrators, according to police. He begged school officials not to identify him, knowing there might be repercussions to his “snitching,” Schopper said.
McKnight and Reddin were summoned to the office, questioned and searched. The bus had actually started leaving the school, without McKnight and Reddin aboard, but it was stopped so they could get on and go home.
Gross, as well as some of the defendants' families, saw the video for the first time in court Thursday.....
On Thursday, each of the three teens pleaded guilty to a count of aggravated battery. In addition, Reddin pleaded guilty to a count of robbery.
Initially, the state Department of Juvenile Justice recommended nine months of probation for the three. But after again reviewing the case, including the video, the agency decided to recommend an indefinite period of supervision ....
Gross accepted the recommendation.

Absolutely, unequivocally disgusting. This judge has singlehandedly telegraphed to these simpleton thugs that bad behavior by blacks is met with a simple slap on the wrist.
Meanwhile, this other kid has to be in fear for his life because he snitched on some teens for trying to sell him drugs.
If this was a bunch of white kids beating on another white kid or a black or Hispanic kid, Gulfport would be on fire again, a la 1996. Instead, a bunch of thug cads with educational and behavioral retardation are given a slap on the wrist and made to issue a coerced apology.

This DISGUSTS me!! PROBABTION?? BFD....means NOTHING to them!! Badge of HONOR that they BEAT the system. We are truly living with a “Just Us” dept.
I hope it is the type of probation like is done around here. If the perp is deemed a bad actor he will be violated and do his whole term whether he actually screws up or not. Local boys who get into trouble often refuse the probation and do the time. They know that they will spend less time in jail that way and will certainly be out of the system a lot sooner.

And she is RESPONSIBLE for raising him to be that person. At the first sign of any more “trouble” she should be locked up with her darling son.
It doesn’t even have to happen for whites to be called on the carpet. Blacks and gays can lie and say they were assaulted by whites, heterosexuals or Christians and will be treated with kid gloves- even after the truth comes out, they are not held to any accountablility.
Obviously the school administrator was not intelligent enough to keep the boy’s identity out of the interview with these thugs. Should not have been involved in the first place. This was a legal matter that under the law is required to be handled by the police. A law suit against the principle is pending.
There is a substantial redneck culture in Gulfport. I expect retribution of the type the judge, Child Services and DA in their cowardice were unwilling to mete out.
That’ll learn ‘em.

In the mean time the grandfather said his grandson is scared to death to go back to school..Even though he changed schools he could not bring himself to get on that school bus the first day..the school and the people involved in it should be sued for telling the thug bastards who reported them..

The victim could easily have been killed. He managed to avoid that by sacrificing his arm (which was broken) to absorb many of the blows and kicks aimed at his head.
Bet they’ll be back in court soon.
