The Obama administration made public its case that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad was responsible for a chemical-weapons attack outside Damascus, bracing Americans for potential strikes in the coming days.

President Barack Obama said he hasn't made a decision on military strikes on Syria, even as U.S. forces continued a buildup in the Middle East on Friday and the White House took the rare step of releasing a detailed U.S. intelligence assessment.

The U.S. findings, based on intercepted communications, satellite images and human spying, were released to underpin Mr. Obama's assertions that the Assad regime was responsible for the attack, which according to the U.S. conclusions killed 1,429 people, including more than 400 children.

I don't think there is anything that turns this off. Obama is planning for a "limited" strike to save face and to help the Muslim Brotherhood and Al Qaeda.

The problem is, Syria and Iran may strike Israel in retaliation, the Syrian Air Defense is top of the line due to years of Russian support (we will lose aircrews), and China and Russia are not about to allow Obama to slap Syria in the face and then sprint home to lock himself in the bathroom.

Moreover, thanks to Obama's massive cuts in Defense on top of the Sequester, the Pentagon is out of money: there are no Operations and Maintenance (O&M) funds to pay for any of this.

The gas attacks do not make sense. If Assad were going to use gas , he would use it in the heat of battle or he would use it at a Muslim brotherhood camp, not at a school.

Obama has the trickiest sales job he’s ever undertaken. He’s got to do something and sell it to the Syrians and Russia as an empty gesture that will change nothing, while giving the mainstream American media something to gush and rave about as the boldest and most decisive military action since D-Day. My guess is that he’ll pull it off.
