Pretty much sums it up. But I'll add the mainstream press is basically two groups:
Those which are already part of the ruling class.
Those which aspire to get there.
Once in a blue moon, somebody in group #2 figures out that either (a)they are never going to get into group #1 or (b)they are being used and decide to practice real journalism.

At which point their computers are taken over by a poltergeist or their meticulously engineered German automobile spontaneously combusts and spits out its engine like a used up wad of Dubble Bubble. Random acts of journalism decline mysteriously.
