Obama Hails Syrian Pact, Calling It a Crucial Step
New York Times ^ | September 15, 2013 | MICHAEL D. SHEAR

Posted on 09/15/2013 7:54:31 AM PDT by lbryce

President Obama on Sunday hailed the agreement reached with Russia over the weekend to seize and destroy Syria’s chemical weapons as a “foundation” that could eventually lead to a political settlement of the civil war that has gripped that nation and killed tens of thousands of people over the last two years.

Mr. Obama said the United States was in a “better position” to prevent President Bashar al-Assad of Syria from using poison gas again because of the deal hammered out by Secretary of State John F. Kerry and Sergey Lavrov, the Russian foreign minister.

“Look, we’re not there yet,” Mr. Obama said in an interview with George Stephanopoulos on the ABC News program “This Week.” “We don’t have an actual, verifiable deal that will begin that process. But the distance that we’ve traveled over these couple of weeks is remarkable.”

Mr. Obama took credit for creating the pressure that led to the deal by threatening -- and then backing off from -- a military strike in Syria. And he defended his actions over the last two weeks, saying his critics are judging him on style, not on the substance of his policies.

“Had we rolled out something that was very smooth and disciplined and linear they would have graded it well, even if it was a disastrous policy,” Mr. Obama said. “We know that, because that’s exactly how they graded the Iraq War until it ended up blowing in our face.”

He said his administration over the last several weeks had focused on preventing Mr. Assad from using chemical weapons again, after an attack last month that is said to have killed more than 1,400 civilians.

Obama Hails Syrian Pact, Calling It a Crucial Step???
Crucial step? By what parameters? I can not for one second believe he believes there's a single iota in which America gets any benefit out of this, except for not having lost even the tiniest, infinitesimal respect he still might have had, had he gone to Congress and been rejected in his bid for war against Syria.

On what basis is there to believe that these two nations, one rogue, one outlaw, both on the polar opposite end of the political spectrum, will follow through on what has never been attempted, let alone accomplished? Are you envisioning any scenario in which Russia demands the poison gas for removal, that which has been instrumental in making Syria a regional power on the strength of its illicit arsenal in its ability to intimidate, threaten others with impunity? Do you see Syria ready to give it all up on some say so, as if Syria would ever reveal the secret locations of, as if this outlaw nation working with its outlaw patron in the removal of its outlawed arsenal of death, would ever rid itself of its most effective card in its struggle to maintain its survival?

I keep on imagining the scenario of Putin and Assad laughing their silly, collective as*es off in sheer incredulity at the utter stupidity, naivete, paralysis of the once greatest nation of them all hoodwinked into this totally non-credible sucker arrangement and one which Zero hails as a "crucial step"

Zero, you're standing there with nothing left but you're bare fudge-packed b^tt, Putin has even taken your last shred of clothing as you step away from the game, and you having called it a crucial step?

Zero, you've crossed the Rubicon in your effort to dispel any notion of yourself as a buffoonish, clueless naif, a black hole of emptiness ensconced within the empty suit that you are bereft of even the slightest social redeeming value.

And that's the good news, because for America, Obama the worst is yet to come.

A real achievement! But why does the image come to mind of a two year old bragging about his poop pile on the living room carpet?

Amazing. Still Bush's fault.

These people really need to stop smoking crack.

The Obama lie media will be all over the Sunday shows touting his potential for a second Peace Prize.

But, the actual truth will never see the light of day that in fact Putin made him look like the incompetent empty suit that he really is.

Bolton: Syrian Pact ‘Will Die a Death by a Thousand Cuts’
Saturday, September 14, 2013 07:47 PM

By: Todd Beamon

Former U.N. Ambassador John Bolton predicted on Saturday that the agreement reached between the United States and Russia on destroying Syria’s chemical weapons “will die a death by a thousand cuts.”

Syrian President Bashar Assad “is required to make his initial declaration on Friday,” Bolton, a senior fellow with the American Enterprise Institute in Washington, told Fox News. “It’ll slip a few days, or maybe a few more. Maybe the first declaration won’t be full and complete, and it’ll have to be amended. And, then, it’ll have to be amended again.

“You can see the impact of this as time goes on, and I think that’s exactly what the strategy is.”

Ha haaaaa!!!

You gotta love Obama's Press Corpse.

Going down the ship just like the band on The Titanic.

Kerry's Red Line of one week or Assad to fork over his chemical weapons turns into, what, 6 months.

Does anybody doubt that the 6 month will turn into a year? And then the year will turn into two years and so on and so and so on.

“Look, we’re not there yet,” Mr. Obama said...

To paraphrase The Cheshire Cat, "If you don't know where you're going, it doesn't matter where 'there' is."

At least I think it's The Cheshire Cat I'm paraphrasing.

If I'm wrong, I have a funny feeling someone will correct me.

Or some one hundred.

The Obama administration will “spin” this the exact way they spun Egypt and its take over by the Muslim Brotherhood. They depicted Egypt as a triumph for democracy and moderation despite the fact that the Muslim Brotherhood was, is and will be hardcore Islamists, Anti Christian, Anti Jewish, Anti West and quasi socialists. Now that the military has thrown out the Muslim Brotherhood, the administration does not want to talk about its “great victory” in Egypt.

Obama will try and keep a lid on Syria until the midterm elections. The media will parrot his propaganda about his great negotiations and skill in handling the Syrian problem. He will not be able to keep Syria from boiling over before the midterms.

Let’s follow the Obama Logic that leads him to state that the Russian sponsored chemical weapons plan could lead to the settlement of the civil war.

Assume he knows (since we do and we certainly aren’t NSA or CIA) that the rebels launched the chemical weapons attack as a means to draw the U.S. into the war against Assad.

The rebels thus have a vested interest in keeping those weapons in play. The same trick might work in the future but not if those weapons are sequestered. So the rebels are opposed to the Russian Plan.

Assad is also opposed to the Russian Plan but only in private, of course. And, listen closely, so are the Russians. Assad just might need those weapons at some point, as a threat to Israel if nothing else.

So the combatants are opposed to The Plan. But Obama sees it as a route to resolving the conflict. What universe does this guy inhabit?

Or, as an alternative idea, maybe Obama is just lying to you and me but not actually to himself.

We are in a Kafka world. Many of those who support Obama’s involvement on the Syrian civil war are the same people who were opposed to the Iraq war, even though Syria is not a menace to the U.S. and it is a civil war among Muslims in which one band is as evil as the other.

To further their agenda those who want to involve U.S. in another Middle Eastern war are using as an emotional argument that Assad killed with chemical weapons over 1,400 civilians, most of them children according to the pictures. (According to the French intelligence, the dead were about 300 and the French leftist organization working in Syria, “Physicians without Frontiers”, put the dead count over 400.)

The problem is that the picture they are using was posted by the BBC and they had to retire it when the photographer who took the photo saw it on the BBC web site, it was taken on Iraq in 2003 when Saddam Hussein murdered with chemicals weapons more than 5,000 Kurds in a single day!

Even though BBC retired the picture, the fake photo was edited and all TV news programs keep posting it as proof of the horrendous crimes against humanity committed by the butcher of Bagdad. Obama, and those supporting the involvement of U.S. on Syria’s civil war on humanitarian grounds, prefer to ignore that they kept silent when Assad last year used chemicals weapons in Syria and when he murdered with conventional weapons more than 100,000 of his own people.

It is unconscionably that Obama had not shown the same humanitarian concern for the lives of the Christians, since Obama took power, more than one million Christians have been massacred all around Africa and their churches set on fire by Muslims while Obama, the United Nations, and the rest of the world, kept a thundered silence.

Yeah, would absolutely love to see him in that strong, intimidating military look, the way the 1988 Democratic Candidate Gov Dukakis of Massachusetts took on his General MacArthur posture looking every bit the diminutive Munchkin
steering his tank aimlessly as his helmet, too big for his size 4 head, kept on drooping over his eyes, looking every bit the fool Obama would.
