Washington navy yard shooting: Aaron Alexis's mother is glad he is dead
The Telegraph ^ | 9-18-2013 | Raf Sanchez

Speaking for the first time since Alexis opened fire on colleagues at the Washington naval base, his mother released an emotional apology to the families of her son's victims.

"I don't know why he did what he did, and I'll never be able to ask him, why. Aaron is now in a place where he can no longer harm to anyone, and for that I am glad," Cathleen Alexis said, her voice cracking in a brief audio statement.

"To the families of the victims, I am so, so very sorry that this has happened. My heart is broken."

Sounds like she has had problems with Aaron in the past.

I always feel bad for the families of mentally ill persons who go berserk like this...in many cases, they have spent years unsuccessfully trying to get treatment for their children. The only exception would probably have been the mother of the Sandy Hook shooter, who was killed herself but unfortunately fell into the category of an enabler because she was so unrealistic about her son’s illness.

She did not say that! She sounded like a heart felt mother who mourns her son and the horror that he put people thru.

She said she was glad he was in a place where he could no longer hurt anyone else. I was left with the impression that dead was not her choice!

25 years ago the guy would have been locked up in a psych ward way before this point. That being said, liberals fight to keep the crazies loose to prey on us and assist in gun confiscation zealotry. A crazy person who is a danger to society serves no purpose locked away. Socialist progressives can instead put them to good use.

The headline is a bit of a twist. She said she is glad that he can no longer do harm as a result of his death. I can’t imagine what it would be like when your (adult) child has committed such an atrocious crime. May God grant her and all who are affected by this appalling crime some measure of comfort and peace.

Who is conducting security clearances. There used to be a standard.

in the article....

Over the weekend Alexis visited a Virginia gun range where he practiced firing an AR-15 assault rife, the same weapon used in the Sandy Hook massacre which killed 20 children. He tried to buy the weapon but was prevented by a Virginia law that forbids people from out of state buying heavier guns, according to The New York Times.

Ugh...still peddling this lie.

Most likely the poor woman will be changing her attitude once the ambulance chasers speak with her. I foresee a big time lawsuit against numerous agencies that dropped the ball in not putting the murderer into the justice system each time he criminally offended.

Waiting for the interview with his father.

What’s that? The father is nowhere to be found?

Now who would have ever thought that....

I admire her that she didn’t say “My son was such a good boy.”

As for locking people up, there are some who are locked up who shouldn’t be. Some are simply in the wrong institutions. Some are falsely accused. But I guess we have to break some eggs to make an omelet.

Any idea what actually happened? (I haven't been following this case at all, so I'm pretty ignorant on the specifics).

Not true. His father has given interviews to the press.

We heard from his father on the day of the shooting, before we heard of or from his mother. He had two acknowledged parents.

Wow. That AR-15 gets around, if it was the same one used at Sandy Hook. [/s]

[Poorly written agenda-pushing article.]

It's utterly insane, but criminal background checks are now considered "discriminatory" by the EEOC. I'm sure that I don't have to identify the group that allegedly suffers under this discrimination, do I?

Agree with your post. I was going to post something similar about her being glad he couldn’t harm anybody else, not that she was glad he was dead.

I believe you to be correct on your assessment of Liberals/Leftists using the loonies. It’s why they worked so damned hard to get them released, and back into society in the 1950’s, and 1960’s. Sort of like poison pills they could somewhat manipulate, or simply use the results of their chaos.

It’s amazing that the agenda-driven are so heated up over the use of weapons but not curious about how clearance to our military installations is so easy or why military on installations can’t carry weapons.

It took DC police to take Alexis down. Had Navy Yard personnel been allowed to carry, he might have killed 2 people before he was taken down by one of those employees. OR, knowing people in the installation would be carrying, he might not have gone there in the first place.

The anti-gun brigades are, as usual, going after the wrong people, wrong circumstances. And, no, they never will learn.

He used a 12ga with .00 buck and slugs, and a .40cal semi-auto pistol. There was no AR-15 used, except by SWAT/Police/Military responders.

CNN posted an anti-AR-15 screed, which I posted early yesterday morning, but when the FBI announced their findings later that morning, CNN had to rewrite the entire article and headline. Hence, the dust-up on that thread.
