I noticed a receipt that my husband brought home from an audiologist last week that described him as "non-hispanic white". What's with that? Does he get treated differently if he's catagorized as "hispanic"? What about 3 of my grandsons who are 3/4 Irish, Swedish, English, & Italian and 1/4 Mexican with ancestry in the US dating back to 1607? Their great grandparents were all born in the USA. Are they "hispanic" or "non-hispanic"? Hmmmmmm. It's a slippery slope they tread.
You're right, Hispanics are displacing blacks as the official "minority" group that political hacks of both parties feel the need to pander to. The keynote speaker at the 2012 Democratic National Convention was a La Raza agitator named Julian Castro, the Mexican mayor of San Antonio. The Democratic party is propping him up as their new golden boy, as they did with Obama in 2004. He may not run in 2016, but I'm sure we'll be seeing his mug in 2020.
