My dad owned a retail store in Spain. There was a box of some items that had not sold in years and were in the back collecting dust. My mom took them out, raised the prices to some ridiculous figure, and put a sign “special, today only”. They were all gone in a few hours! At least she didn’t lie. My brother started calling her “the Phoenician”.

they all do this....caveat emptor....

at Safeway earlier this week,in their discount meat section, they had some 7blade chuck roast marked down 30% from their already marked down price....but the original price was $3.99...which made the FRESH 7blade chuck roast at $2.49 a pound actually a better deal....

watch prices....know prices....when you find a price that's really good, buy extra...

I know they price things up before they price them "down"...

Went there to redeem a gift card. Never saw so many ugly clothes under one roof. Finally settled on a pair of jeans I could have purchased elsewhere for less than half what they charged.

Safeway sale price is usually higher than competitor’s regular price. I only go there if I have say 10 off 50 andI don’t buy anything @ regular price.

"I know they price things up before they price them "down"..."

Yep

A Food Lion (grocery) employee told me they raise their prices when they have "buy one, get one free" sales.

And this is news?

How about government programs that go from a raise of 30% to a raise of 25% and bill it as a 20% cut.

"Kohl’s got busted in California for doing the same thing."

Kohl's doesn't "hide" anything about their prices. Part of their appeal is that you always think you're getting a good deal, because they always kindly "knock off" a few dollars on each item.

But if you want the item anyway, why bitch about the final cost?

In fact you get to "brag" about what a great deal you got.

Win-win.

BTW, Kohl's has clearance racks in the back of every department.

Now THERE are some deals going on.

Shirts and pants at up to 90% off.

I've gotten many items that cost less than they would at a thrift store.

No, you are missing the point. This is an attack on a Texas based company because it IS a Texas company. You don’t see them attacking good liberals from Minnesota or Noo Yack City.

I don’t buy it. If this had happened at Target (Saint Paul born and raised) the same article would’ve ran. The press isn’t anti-Texas, it’s anti-capitalist as well. Keep in mind that being a capitalist is not simply an economic ideal, it’s a social one, as well. Anyone who gets out of bed in the morning and accomplishes something that he plans to accomplish is by definition a capitalist. That’s what “work” and “labor” is called.

The press hate “work” and “labor”.

As for Minnesota and liberalism...you’ll be happy to know that this state will go red soon enough. Perhaps not mid-terms. But by 2016, I’m fairly confident. You heard it here first.

Only people this impacts is people not spending their own money.

If people are ignorant about the fair market value of goods... it is the duty of the free market to redistribute the cheap money gotten from the ignorant.

bait and switch is just free market to you?

No, is NOT just free market to me but I have been shopping in my many years, called to the stores for sales.

Believe it or not, NOT all stores have what they advertise. I know that may be hard for you to fathom...and do forgive my cynicism.

Store folks SWEAR that it's not bait and switch but "sold out." And, maybe the sale was so good that all the good stuff WAS sold out. Who really knows.
