Johnny Zuagar just wants to go back to work. Its been 72 hours since hes been locked out of his job at the U.S. Census Bureau in Suitland, Md., and hes scared.
I dont know what bills to pay, says Zuagar, who has two young children. Im afraid I might lose my house. I dont know how it got to this.
Zuagar and 800,000 federal workers all over the United States are locked out of their jobs because of the House Republican government shutdown. While most people think that the shutdown is focused on Washington, D.C., the reality is that about 85% of federal workers don't work in the Washington area. In fact, the D.C. metro area is only the fourth largest concentration of federal workers (see a map of where federal workers are). Here are 12 examples of workers, some of whom are still working, are going without paychecks because of the irresponsible House Republican shutdown.

Cry me a RIVER, YOU UNION Pukes!
then suffer beeotch
The enumerated powers of the federal government in the Constitution are the critical jobs. Everything else is a waste and usurpation of our liberties and our monies.
NASA needs to do more of those “urgent “ global warming studies for the global warming hoax
The IRS needs to oppress more conservatives. that is urgent to the democrats.
the NSA needs to spy on more conservatives
The EPA needs to shut down more power plants for the global warming hoax.
this is what idiot dead democrat voters are wanting’
I'm glad the stupid government is shut down. maybe now Americans will realize government is not needed for anything.
There are no union jobs that are “vital” to the lives of Americans. Freeloaders dependent upon BIG government maybe but not Americans.
They lie. Reid, 0, and the dims shutdown govmt.
Thanks, Jeff, for explaining it so clearly to us. How silly of me to think for 62 years that I had to take care of myself, my family, my parents and, when called upon, to help my neighbors, schools and church. I don't know what I was thinking.
I was going to say “Welcome to what the rest of us (who pay his salary, incidentally) have been putting up with for a decade or more”.
only 72 hours and he may lose his house?
I can’t find my magnifying glass to help me find my violin.
If the census were doing its constitutional duties alone, it should be a shuttered agency for 8 or 9 years out of every 10.
After all, how hard is it to ask how many adults and how many children in your home?
Ohhhh!! Propaganda!!
The shutdown is because the Senate Dems would not vote on the funding bill. No funding bill, no money to pay the bills. Talk to the Senate Dems, please.
Extremely misleading because it lumps military, civilian DoD, and other federal workers together in one big bucket. For example, Colorado Springs at 18+%??? Yeah, because of NORAD, AF Academy, Peterson AFB, Schriever AFB, and Fort Carson. Take out the military and I’d bet you the percentage is very small.
And we know why we’re struggling.
Lose his house? I’ve been there before so here’s some advice: step away from the edge after you get back to work and stop spending everything you make. Put money aside like you will NOT have a job tomorrow.
