Republican lawmakers plan to investigate mounting reports that federal officials are kicking families out of their homes and shuttering private businesses because they sit on federal parkland -- describing the spectacle as an over-the-top response to the partial government shutdown.
"We are receiving a lot of reports" of businesses being shut down, said Mallory Micetich, spokeswoman for Republicans on the House Natural Resources Committee.
She confirmed the committee is investigating these reports, as part of a widening probe into the National Park Service's response to the partial government suspension.
Micetich cited as one example a privately run inn along the Blue Ridge Parkway in North Carolina.
The innkeeper tried, unsuccessfully, to repel federal efforts to shut down his business, the Pisgah Inn, last week.
Owner Bruce O'Connell told FoxNews.com on Monday that rangers are still outside his business, blocking the entrance to the parking lot. As of late Monday morning, he said there were three cars and five rangers stationed outside.
"Their message is, 'sorry, we're following orders,'" he said, describing it as a "24/7 blockade."
He said he's hired a lawyer, and is hoping to seek a temporary restraining order soon in federal court.

Congress has all the leverage they need here. Just as they can selectively fund agencies, they can also selectively defund agencies that allow themselves to be used as Obama's thugs.
They need a sharp reminder that they work for the people and not for some transitory politician and the best way to get their attention is to shut off their funding hard.

Gestapo
This not funny now. Impeach this communists black Muslim turd.
Is a lease of federal property not worth the paper it’s written on?? If they lease it, they have a right to be there, no matter what some DC bureaucrat says. I would be getting the local sheriff and state law enforcement officials involved.
Go to congressman Benisheks facebook page. He is on this committee. He also backs Cruz fully on the healthcare law.
“Achtung! Juden...er... Tea Partier...AUS!”
The founding fathers were geniuses in having the Second Amendment. Who will fire the modern-day ‘shot heard ‘round the world’ this time? We are approaching BITS.
If I remember correctly NC was too close to call in the last election but ultimately went to Romney - I wonder how many of these citizens are now waking up?
Ve vere just following orders, Ja?
ping!
There was a time when any given Federal employee knew that they should NEVER openly disrespect ANY Congressman. It is long past time for whole swaths of the Federal Government to be defunded.
Investigating?
BS.
What is there to investigate? There is a lease and it is valid or not. Has nothing to do with the shutdown.
I lived and worked in Asheville for more than 15 years. It’s a liberal bastion. I’m sure the Birkenstock crowd is stunned at the behavior of Oblunder in regards to businesses on the Parkway. Kind of wish I was there to see it.
Unfortunately hearings have no “forcing function”. If the House can’t get a bill through the Senate I’m not sure how they can defund any agency. States need to stand up to the feds. Bar federal employees on official business from traveling on state highways. All States have gotten so used to drinking at the federal teat they’ve forgotten how to fend for themselves.
This didn't cut it at Nuremberg.
Obama and the Dems are placing a huge bet on the ability of the MSM to pull off yet another “It’s the Republican’s Fault” campaign.
Remember 1995? We had a shutdown that year. Do remember what Facebook looked like then? How about Twitter and Google? And Drudge? How about Fox News?
Can’t remember? You have company. None of them were around in 1995. Those were the days when the LA Times and their like were still a big deal. Times change. Dems don’t.
We are winning the Facebook and Twitter battle. We are winning on Fox. We are winning on Drudge.
Keep the faith. Keep calling those Dem Senators.
