Computer experts say the problems with the site are not because of heavy traffic but are the result of structural flaws in system architecture. It is going to take months to rebuild it. That raises a question: If the federal government can’t manage a simple Web site, how on earth is it going to manage the health care of millions of Americans?

Good question.

Good question.

Except anyone with a clue knew the answer from the git-go.

"But thanks to the government shutdown, everyone is talking about the implosion of the GOP instead."

Relax, Marc. The shutdown will end soon enough. And the ObamaCare implosion will still be there, bigger and better than ever.

They don’t intend to manage a simple web site. They intend to force us into a single payer system.

Great read. Not a long article, but this little dig leaves me smiling the most:

The difference is: 1.) Amazon seldom crashes, and 2.) on Amazon, people actually buy something.

Especially 2.

...I thought “the memo” says to always pretend that Obamacare is for our own good and will benefit all of us! Instead, it’s more important the GOP “implodes” then this wonderful ACA work. Unreal.

Results are not measured, have not been, are not, and will not be in their world. Only their good intentions are measured.

When did they begin writing the massive software program? What 3 or 4 years ago?

Yeah, it takes that long to write the program, but it also takes the same amount of time to test all the bugs out.

The Obamarxists think they are so smart.

These idiots did ‘Obamacare’ the way they did everything ELSE connected with getting their clown nominated, elected and re elected.

He's a bogus idiot and THEY are near-criminal bounders... any HS debating team could reduce ‘O’ to a puddle on the ground in seconds and could tear the ACA to tatters, in a flash!!!

As my American Enterprise Institute colleague, Dr. Scott Gottlieb, points out, how can Obama penalize people for not having health insurance if the government’s Web site to provide that insurance doesn’t work?

The same way they were penalizing refiners for not mixing biofuels when there wasn't enough made to use.

I figured out a way to “freep” the WaPo. Go to the comments and “like” mine. The top comment only has 11 “likes,” so it’ll be easy to put this one on top, where it’ll start gathering more likes on its own.

My comment:

“Comrades, do not listen to capitalist stooges like Marc Thiessen! Soon Obamacare shall be smashing all records like Norelsk Tractor Factory in last 5-year plan! By November 2017, National Socialist health rationing will rival Cuban medical system, free for all good comrades! And best of all, the diligent comrade commissars working day and night at the IRS-NSA-ACA data hubs will be able to track down last desperate right-wing reactionaries, and exclude them from glorious National Socialist medical rationing! Onward to victory, comrades! A new National Socialist day is coming in next glorious 5-year plan! Soviet-style Obamacare soon shall be envy of world!”

I have another question.

How can the government fine/tax you for not buying something that is unavailable for you to purchase?

Shebelouse would say...we did not spend enough money building the website, only 63 million, we really need and will be asking for 63 billion.

Name spelling intended!

Web site got more than 8 million hits in the first week

Probably 10,000 people trying repeatedly to get on the system,

The three month rebuild estimate is pure horse sh!t.

They have three months’ worth (millions probably) of purgatory accounts to reconcile (those accounts that were ‘set’ with proper information but locked out because of faulty security protocols leaving ‘new account holders’ with no access to modify, choose, or delete to start anew).

What they usually do for this sort of governmental failure is simply to move the goalposts in. That's not going to work this time. As the author points out, the public is used to dealing with websites that work (and frankly I'd be surprised if Amazon's traffic were only 70 million a week). This isn't, on the face of it, actually that sophisticated a set of specs: we have a single product with a very small list of competing vendors and a customer base that is already precisely defined. There really aren't a lot of mysteries here...

...except in the legislation it's supposed to reference. That turns out not to be a sharply-defined set of rules but a labyrinthine mush of conflicting interests, exemptions, special rules for special people, etc, etc - in short, it's a 2000-page document filled with everything every junior Democrat congressional aide thought to cram in while the getting was good. Yes, you can program stupidity but not that sort of stupidity. That takes a human brain, if that term may be stretched to the people who wrote this mess. Sow's ear, silk purse - it isn't going to work, and it certainly isn't going to be patched in 24 hours.

I'm more concerned whether they SHOULD than if they COULD.
Even if they eventually manage to shake out most of the bugs in the sign-up system, this massive concentration of control and money is absolutely anathema to how a free nation should operate.
The government is made up of bumbling fools, but power makes them dangerous nonetheless. Our founders knew that.

This is what happens when you put a woman who should be at home knitting sweaters for her grandchildren in charge of a vast, highly technical website encompassing all 50 states.
