On Tuesday, the BLS engrossed in the same frenzy of openly making up data like the Dept of Labor has been with the initial claims data ever since early September when it started upgrading its California "systems" and never finished, announced that while only 140K or so jobs were created in September, nearly 700K full-time jobs were added as over 500K part-time jobs were converted into full-timers. On the surface this is great news... until one actually looks for empirical evidence that this is happening anywhere besides the data manipulating, massaging and fabricating models used by the BLS. And one certainly won't find it at the biggest private employer in the US - Walmart, which just announced that a whopping 475,000 of its employees earn at least $25,000 a year. Great news, right? Sure, until one considers that WMT has over 1 million employees, which means that well over 50% of Wal-Mart's employees make a tiny $25,000 year.

25k is $12/hr
How are these people making $25,000 dollars a year going to send their kids to college and put away a nest egg for their own retirement, and then pay for their Obamacare?
Ah, but you forget the freebies that they will get. Obamacare for someone in that income level is heavily subsidized.
"the single mom is better off earning gross income of $29,000 with $57,327 in net income & benefits than to earn gross income of $69,000 with net income and benefits of $57,045."
Walmart provides a lot of jobs for people. Some advance in pay at Walmart too.
But the one thing Walmart doesn’t do is chain it’s employees to the wall. They are free to move along to other employment anytime their skill and motivation leads them to greener pastures. Some do this too. Meanwhile it’s good to know there are places like Walmart where almost anybody has a chance of securing decent ( if not especially lucrative) employment. Good for Walmart and good for the folks who work there. They’re all contributing to society.
Without special skills, $25,000 per year is about all one can earn.
They will all then make more than enough money each year to pay their bills, send their kids to college, save for their retirement, and pay for Obamacare.
At least that's the libertarian "pull yourself up by your own bootstraps" theory.
Good God...No wonder every other person seems to be on food stamps..
“At least that’s the libertarian “pull yourself up by your o.wn bootstraps” theory.”
Please share the “who_would_fardels_bear” theory. Does it have something to do with sleeping til Noon and sucking on the gov’t tit?
Wal-Mart and other big box stores have played a big part in the outsourcing of jobs, technology and wealth. In a decade or so, $25k may be as good as it gets. Where will our socialism be then.
Well said. In a free society if people decide its worth their while to accept a job at Walmart, who are we to denigrate it. These type of stories are usually bogus because they don’t account for part time wages, high school kid wages, temporary seasonal wages etc.
Lets see, were told all the call centers, all the retail, all the restaurants and fast foods industry, all of which employee tens of millions of Americans, are jobs meant for teenagers who live at home with mom and dad...
wowza.
I think $25K is pretty good pay for a store clerk.

Good analysis.
Also have friends and relatives who work there are very happy they can vary some hours , and can count on having a job at a rate they feel is fair for their skill, responsibility, and required effort.
On another note the parking lots in our local fla locations are always full so the business mosel is working.
Their kids are going to have to work their way through college, and if they don't qualify for an academic based scholarship, it's going to take longer to do so, without incurring debt.
There is no nest egg, and there is no retirement.
They won't qualify for “Obamacare”, but they will qualify for Medicaid, if Democrats have their way.
Want to make more than 25K a year?
Learn skills and seek a different job.
Most Walmart employees are part time.
I guess it never occurs to some people to ask why anyone would actively seek and accept part time, lower wage jobs.
Perhaps because it meets their needs and goals?
That’s fairly good pay, many people are not making near that. I’d love to make $12/hr, even very part time.
What does this guy think retail store clerks make?
Who would be paying those 475k people to show up and do anything, if Walmart wasn’t? We should be grateful someone has something left for anyone to do.
And hell, Walmart has freed up thousands and thousands of dollars for my family to go out and waste at some other business. Other businesses should be grateful too. If I paid $9 for a box of tampons at Walgreens instead of $5 for the same box at Walmart, that’s $4 less Joe’s Bar down the block gets on Friday night.
If we guarantee everyone a "living wage" then most will turn into useless sponges. If we had a truly free market where everyone was left to his/her own devices then there would be loads of homeless, orphans, etc.
A few of us were born with the intelligence, skills and/or perseverance to command decent wages. The rest are open game for the welfare racket or the crony capitalists.
Libertarians are simpletons who believe that there exists an economic system under which all people can thrive.
Their ideas are as simple and incorrect as those of the socialists who believe that there exists a political system under which all people can be supported and protected from the vagaries of life.
