SACRAMENTO, Calif.-A sporadic gunbattle lasting late into the night Friday in southwest Roseville wounded four law enforcement officers after a failed afternoon attempt to take in a wanted parolee by Roseville officers teamed with a federal agent.
As of late Friday, the suspect, identified as Sammy Duran, 32, was holed up in the house.
None of the injuries to officers appear to be life-threatening, authorities said. Roseville city officials said Duran is a wanted parolee who has lived in Roseville for some time and with whom police have had previous contact.
"He didn't want to go to jail. He is a wanted parolee," said Roseville police Lt. Cal Walstad when asked about motivation. He said the suspect is armed with an assault-type weapon.
The incident began at 3:09 p.m. Roseville dispatch reported that a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent was down. Officers from agencies across the region raced to the scene in an attempt to contain the suspect. The commotion snarled traffic for hours.
The ICE agent was shot near Riverside Avenue and Darling Way, not far from Mark White Neighborhood Park, which was named after a slain Roseville police officer.

Poor guy, he was complacent, it was the “assault-type weapon” that did the shooting.
Why is it that reporters can’t put together a cogent sentence these days?
It is no wonder newspapers are going broke. Nobody can understand the stories they write.
The story was filed at 1AM, before the stand-off ended and the suspect was taken into custody.
Which sentence are you having trouble with?
The first.

Interesting observation, although I didn’t share your difficulty in understanding it. Maybe its because I’ve been following the story.
There were several articles to choose from on this standoff and subsequent capture, and I thought the Sacramento Bee provided the best local detail.
I’m actually more interested in the contrast this story makes with the one involving the kid who was shot by police while carrying a replica AK47.
