David Barton would be the worst possible Republican candidate. He has a degree in Christian Education from Oral Roberts, not a history degree; yet he is touted as the best Christian historian in America. It has been clearly demonstrated he has falsified his histories - 55 Christian historians have signed a petition against his work! The Democrats would make mincemeat of him and discredit conservationism in the process.

This is actually what I was trying to remember-
History News Network Votes Barton’s Jefferson book as the least credible history book; close second is Zinn’s A People’s History of the United States.
