Our neighborhood Blockbuster is still open. However, the 5 Guys hamburger joint across the street was shuttered this past week. Never saw that coming.

The two 5 guys in my area seem to be doing OK. A few months back a bojangles on a major street that always seemed full was shuttered unexpectedly overnight going into a weekend. It is still vacant.

Last Sunday was the final day of the closing sale of the Blockbusters here in Corsicana, Texas--

So, I guess we must say you folks up in Ohio... are late again getting to the party--

Here in Spain... we think it must be something in the Lake Erie water.

Hold on, there, Bendy. It is... a Cleveland thing!

No, Jim, it is a Cincinnati... thing!

Gadzooks, big, I wish I'd never... brought it up!

Yeah, we all know it is a Green Bay... thing--

The 5 Guys corporate people take the franchise very seriously. The requriements for the franchise to continue are pretty steep. If you miss your targets they shut you down. No second chances...

Not surprising. I have never once eaten at our 5 guys place. I have never seen it very busy there. I guess their high prices at enough to keep them going, at least for now.

“5 Guys hamburger joint across the street was shuttered this past week”

Well, if it’s anything like the one that opened here, no surprise to me.

I couldn’t wait until when 5 Guys opened here.

But, boy was I disappointed! Soggy, cold fries and the burger cooked so well done that if you dropped the burger patty it would probably have shattered like a piece of thin black coal when it hit the floor.

But this wasn’t the worst part. The “music” was so loud you had to scream your order to the order clerk several times before there seemed to be some understanding of what was probably being communicated. I complained to the manager about the noise level but was told that the insane sound level was part of the “ambiance”. I pointed out several older couples about the dining room who were grimly and silently curled into almost fetal balls due to the insane noise level and said, “Do these people look like they’re enjoying themselves?” Total waste of breath, just like water rolling off a duck’s back. I feel sorry for the employees because the high sound levels have got to be severely damaging to their ears.

Needless to say, I never went back. And never will.

Businesses close unsuccessful branches (locations) fast these days.

They start on a fairly short term lease (2-5 yrs. w/ options), and at lease end, if they still aren’t making profit, they bug out.
