Up until now, the war between the Tea Party and the establishment GOP (however you define that) has been kind of one sided. Responses from the old guard have tended to run along the lines of, were all fighting for the same goals, we just dont agree on the tactics or, more simply, cant we all just get along? But this week, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell sat down with Peggy Noonan for a WSJ interview which is bound to have some tongues wagging. In it, hes essentially taken off the gloves, and said what most of the media mavens have been repeating for months now.
The most important election yesterday wasnt the governor of New Jersey and it wasnt the governor of Virginia, it was the special election for Congress in South Alabama, where a candidate who said the shutdown was a great idea, the president was born in Kenya, and that he opposed Speaker Boehner came in second. The victory of a more electable Republican, is significant, Mr. McConnell says. To govern, parties must win. To win, parties must run candidates that dont scare the general public, [and] convey the impression that we could actually be responsible for governing, you can trust uswere adults here, were grown-ups.
The tea party, he says, consists of people who are angry and upset at governmentand I agree with them. But I think, honestly, many of them have been misled. . . . Theyve been told the reason we cant get to better outcomes than weve gotten is not because the Democrats control the Senate and the White House but because Republicans have been insufficiently feisty.

1) Illegals will NEVER, EVER for you and the GOPe...no matter how much you suck up.
2) You cannot win without the Conservative base. Not now, not ever.
Mitch, one more thing; you had better tell your buddies at the RNC to stop calling us for donations. Apparently they didn't get the memo that you don't need us.
I no longer wish to be associated with the Republican party. The brand has been damaged beyond repair. Thank you GWB...you freakin’ idiot!
So we have a version of “Bush’s Fault” now. Good work.
Basically, the TEA Party is the one political group sounding a warning about the deficit spending that is going on in this country. They also have made in their job to oppose Obamacare.
Our deficits will approach 20 trillion by the time Obama is out of office and Obamacare looks like a dissaster. I do not see how this is a radical group in any stretch of the imagination.
All of the Dems and half of the Repubs are happy to to party on into the night as the boat is heading towards the waterfal. The TEA party is doing their best to sound a warning. It’s all really pretty simple.
So we have a version of Bushs Fault now. Good work.

Shall I go on? GWB did extensive damage to the party! You want to defend him, you go right ahead.
Yes, it is “Bush’s Fault.” It’s ole One-World-Government Pappy Bush’s fault. He started the undoing of everything that Reagan accomplished, and it’s been downhill ever since!
Are you willing to let a liberal Dem win in order to purge congress of liberal Republicans, in order to take back the Republican party. That’s what it is gonna take. Liberal Repubs HAVE to lose, either in the primaries or in the general election in order to diminish their influence.
If you think the car wreck that is the GOP is one man’s fault, then you’ll believe its salvation rests with one man as well. We get on the Rats for worshiping Obastard, and you’re looking for the same thing to worship!
To heck with all of you. Yeah, Bush damaged the brand, but Dole did nothing to harm it? Bob Michael? Gingrich when he caved to Clinton? Since GWB, we’ve had McQueeg, McConnel, Boehner, Cantor, and a host of others. A lot of assholes had a hand in screwing the “brand,” and I think you’re being a bit myopic to blame just GWB. We elect “Presidents” in this country, not “Kings.”
Just like the Rats, you have a single, simple-minded song to sing: “Bush’s Fault.”
Hello?
No, Bush wasn’t the only problem, but he contributed mightily (along with Boner, McConnell, McCain, Graham and others) to the RINO party we have today.
Sorry if that pi$$es you off, but facts are facts.

I am glad the gloves are coming off.
You scare us too, Mitch. We’re going to avoid you like the plague. Hope that makes you feel better.
We now have in America one Party rule. the Republican Party has divorced itself from the foundations and America needs something like we saw when the Republican Party became the Party of Lincoln. The Democrats long ago sold their soul to Satan for political power. And were co-opted by the Communist Party USA/ACLU. In Virginia the Republicans and the Democrats put forward a purported Libertarian to provide the Obamabot with a narrow victory. And if past elections are Any gauge the Vote was probably a stolen victory at that. When I see a mere politician put on the mantle of fundamental principles—i.e. Religion,Morality, and Knowledge... I will have to consider what lies beneath that mantle before I can vote for a republican and I have Not yet forgotten Democratic rulers like the Peanut farmer, the Unusually good Liar and the Communist from Kenya —nor their wannabe’s like Quick John the Other JFK from Mass. Not the kind of people I would trust with my children.or my bank book.
The “we just need to elect more Republicans” argument falls flat when you ask them to recount just how much the managed to roll back government from 2001-2006, when they had the White House, Senate, and House.
Their past performance is what gives us legitimate cynicism about their future performance. It’s time for them to step aside and usher in a new generation who is willing to actually keep their election promises.
