Virginia attorney general race: Herring (Dem) takes lead, with a recount appearing likely
Washington Post ^ | 11/11/2013 | Antonio Olivo and Laura Vozzella

Democratic state Sen. Mark R. Herring took the lead in the extraordinarily tight Virginia attorney general race Monday evening, after he picked up more than 100 previously uncounted votes in Richmond.

Herring had started the day trailing his Republican opponent, state Sen. Mark D. Obenshain (Harrisonburg), by a mere 17 votes out of 2.2 million cast. But as jurisdictions across the state continued to scrub their vote counts, the State Board of Elections showed Herring with a 117-vote lead late Monday.

Lawyers from both parties have descended on elections offices in Fairfax County and Richmond. Meanwhile, the campaigns said they were cautiously optimistic but were bracing for a long, drawn-out battle, which appears almost certainly headed to a recount and could seesaw again.

“We’re always excited to see the movement go to our favor, and we’re just going to make sure over the next few weeks and however long this plays out that every single vote counts,” said Ashley Bauman, press secretary for the Democratic Party of Virginia. “Because I think in the end, we feel confident that our candidate will be on the winning side.”

There are 42 mostly red counties that have not counted posted their provisional vote totals. An average of Obenshain +3 per county wipes that lead away.

And... that recount is definitely going to happen.

It is a mathematical impossibility that we have SO many close election that are decided by a margin a of a handful votes.

The sample size here was over 2 million votes.

For a result this close, while the other races had larger margins either way, is prima facie evidence of fraud.

I have seen way too mnay instances of this happening since the CLinton years.

The Dems FIGHT for EVERY race, while the GOP-E shrugs their shoulders and say—”we’ll get them next time”.

Sorry, the Dems mean for there NOT to be a next time, and we better start fighting tooth and nail for every race.

They want the AG office here to inoculate Terry the Thief.

Just like Holder does for Obama.

They just kept finding Democrat votes until he won.

Sounds like New Mexico. We have Democrat magicians who make bags of votes appear out of nowhere.

In this case, letting the Democrat win would put 3 Democrats “in charge”. That leaves the Democrats with no one to blame when things go badly, and they will with McAuliffe. He’s a dirtbag and everyone knows it. Even the Democrat-controlled Roanoke Times refused to endorse him.
It would be nice for the Dems to be able to blame the “ReThuglican” AG for picking on McAuliffe when the inevitable happens. I suspect the Dems will win the office but regret it later.
This whole election was rigged and rife with voter fraud. People are starting to notice.

Republicans need to gin up boxes of votes from dead relatives and family pets and have them handy to counter the democrat fraud machine. Fighting fair while the other guy is kicking you in the nuts is just plain stupid.

Has there EVER been an election since 1950 in which the Republican led by less than 1,000 votes after the first count and didn’t lose?

I don’t even remember a time when votes just appeared for a republican after the vote counts were in.

Yep. Bob McDonnell for VA AG in 2005. Went into the recount leading 290, came through it winning by 340.

Why do we continue to live with the unacceptable? If the vote count is not correct on elction night it should not be reported until it is. It is unbelievable that “votes” can be “found” days after an election simply by scrubbing the numbers. Absentee is another story, though still ripe for fraud.

It’s easy to do, and the RATS have it figured out.

Step #1...Don’t turn in the liberal districts vote counts until all the other districts are turned in.

Step #2...Create the votes needed to win.

Step #3... Depend on the fact that Republicans won’t change things to put an end to it.

Had a plane crash not killed him, Richard D. Obenshain would have been a US Senator instead of Mr. Elizabeth Taylor, John Warner. Dick Obenshain was a blue ribbon man in every respect, and would have made a great Senator. I don’t know if Mark Obenshain is related, but expect he is.

I was honored to have known Dick from the late sixties until his death following his nomination as the Republican Candidate for US Senator. Dick had defeated Warner for the nomination, and after his death, the runner-up Warner got the nod for the office. Warner campaigned all over Virginia with his new wife, Elizabeth Taylor, on his arm. The publicity was enough to get him the win.

“Elections” in this country are a joke. We make banana republic elections look honest. 100 “previously uncounted votes”. LOL! We know where they came from. Wake up America!!! The party is over!!!

"The Dems FIGHT for EVERY race, while the GOP-E shrugs their shoulders and say—”we’ll get them next time”.

It's more than just GOP-e members shrugging their shoulders- I think they often deliberately refuse to help Conservatives in need. They view Conservatives (especially the more outspoken and politically aggressive ones) as mere "embarrassments".

Most GOP-e members are inarticulate, hyper-sensitive people who feel they need all of the stars and planets to be aligned in order for Republicans to have any chance of winning anywhere, and those eeevil Conservatives "disrupt" those chances- so they are not worth defending.

I would never accept cheating in a election. Votes that show up should be investigated and if found fraudulent then someone should go to jail. To say Republicans should have votes just show up repulses me.
