[August 29, 2012] Chris Christie, tamed and leashed at the RNC (Flashback)
Washington Times ^ | August 29, 2012 | Charles Hurt

TAMPA, Fla. — What the heck happened to Chris Christie? Everyone eagerly anticipating his signature New Jersey-style smackdown on the first night of the Republican convention walked away scratching his head wondering who or what muted the famously uncontainable, confrontational, loud-mouthed governor. His speech was so tame and devoid of red meat, it could have been delivered by George H.W. Bush at a United Nations convention.

Once it was clear how toothless a speech it would be, it became almost painful to watch him. It was like watching an episode of “Jersey Shore” with Snooki sober and fully dressed in Elizabethan garb. Or an episode with the Situation after successfully completing anger management therapy.

It was all cheese and no cracker.

There was no withering rebuke of President Obama’s economy or his mountain of failed promises. There was no evisceration of the president’s internationalist worldview or his belief that the government should be the at the intersection of all human interactions.

This is the same guy who has been known to call reporters “stupid” and teacher-union leaders “political thugs.”

He is whoever he needs to be one day to the next.

I think that’s not what we need, right now.

He held back at the convention because he didn’t want to help Romney win (something that became increasingly obvious in his suck-up to Obama during Hurricane Sandy). He simply didn’t want to defer his own Presidential aspirations another four years.

The Jersey RINO also held back because he was passed over for VP slot because he couldn’t pass vetting for corruption and for his poor health.

Christie is a RINO’S RINO. In all honesty he should switch parties and become an Obama surrogate. I’m all in for Teed Cruz/Palin now.

His speech was so tame and devoid of red meat, it could have been delivered by George H.W. Bush at a United Nations convention.

I had the same sort of reaction to Newt Gingrich's address at the 2012 Republican National Convention. Gingrich's bland platitude-and cliche-laden speech was a far cry from the barn-burning orations for which he is known. I came away thinking that someone had leaned on him to not be himself.

Well..., the Times sort-of had it right. They just took too short a glimpse. It was a harness, not a leash.

The GOPe has hitched it’s wagon to Christie. They’re in, lock stock and barrel for 2016.
