Democrat Herring widens lead over Republican Obenshain in Va.’s nail-biting race for AG

Democrat Mark R. Herring widened his lead Tuesday over Republican Mark R. Obenshain in Virginia’s nail-biting race for attorney general

With Herring up by 163 votes over Obenshain, the Democrat declared himself the victor, while Obenshain refused to concede. He said he will wait for the State Board of Elections to certify the Virginia-wide vote on Nov. 25.

“Voters in Virginia have spoken, their voices have been heard and I am honored to have won their votes and their trust to become Virginia’s next attorney general,” Herring said in a statement. While the vote was close, he said, “Virginians have chosen me to serve as the next attorney general.”

But Obenshain said he wasn’t about to give up in “the closest statewide election in Virginia history.”

“We have seen significant swings in the vote count over the last several days as errors are corrected as a part of the regular canvass process,” he said. “The State Board of Elections will now conduct its own review and we will await their results.”

The seesaw race saw Obenshain emerge election night one week ago with a slight edge over Herring, only to see that lead evaporate over the past several days as election officials certified provisional, or contested, ballots.

The weeklong election drama ended in Fairfax County, Virginia’s largest, as election officials certified provisional ballots. When they were done late Tuesday, Herring had added an additional 160 ballots under his name while Obenshain collected 103.

The additional votes gave Herring an unofficial statewide lead of 1,103,778 votes to Obenshain’s 1,103,615 votes.

The provisional ballots that gave Herring his final unofficial total are cast by voters who came to a polling place without a proper identification or voted in the wrong precinct.

Midnight was the deadline for ballots to be certified by local election boards.

Isn’t it strange how every single close election follows this exact same pattern.

And these are being counted why?

The same scam the democrats always run.
Haven’t we had enough of it?

Not strange, terrifying. But I'm beginning to think they're not so stupid as to hold out fraudulent votes til the end, I think they're cheating along the way, holding back valid votes, then dumping them in at the end when they know what they need. That way if the post-election votes are examined, they're in the clear.

Do you mean once they find out how many votes are needed to put the RAT over the finish line they somehow, magically, appear?

I look at how corrupt practically every nook and cranny of the bureaucracy has become and I believe they can and will employ every means at their disposal to guarantee that the ‘right’ candidates gain office.

Personally, I have completely given up on the system as currently configured.

We have optical scanners where I vote. The rats know that most of the GOP voters vote early in the day. They almost always never have the scanners running properly in the morning, so they ask you to put your ballot in a box below and say they will be ran later.

Geesh, how easy would it be to have someone go through those and dump them, or fill out new ones with a changed vote before running them.

I always told my hubby that I bet our ballots are in the dumpster behind the firehouse. As a result, we now vote later in the day and of course, the scanners run just fine. LOL

Remember the republicans control Virginia and the elections right now. It is more likely Bob McDonnell and Bill Bolling have their dirty hands in this than the democrats. This was supposed to be Bolling’s year he has been waiting a decade for and they hate Cuccinelli for ruining that. There is also precedent from the 2012 primaries where they were successfully able to keep everyone but Romney off the ballot. We have reached a point where the establishment republicans may well be a bigger enemy than the democrats themselves.

To quote Josef Stalin who said, “The people who cast the votes don’t decide an election, the people who count the votes do.”

I’ve said it before:

The GOP needs to gin up about a 1000 phoney baloney ballots for every election and have them in reserve. It’s stupid to fight fair when the other guy is kicking you in the nuts.

Never forget who said:

“It is enough that the people know there was an election. The people who cast the votes decide nothing. The people who count the votes decide everything.”

He’s the same guy who said:

“One death is a tragedy; one million is a statistic.”

“The only real power comes out of a long rifle.”

“You cannot make a revolution with silk gloves.”

“Ideas are more powerful than guns. We would not let our enemies have guns, why should we let them have ideas.”

This is the philosophical mindset of the people running the democrat party. We shouldn’t forget that.

This has always been the case.
