What is it with Dems and not realizing the consequences of an action taken for political convenience? Dems in Massachusetts did the same kind of thing when they wanted to put their ringer into Fat Teddy’s seat in the Senate, and then tried to backpedal madly when the same rulechange allowed Brown (though granted he turned out to be quite the disappointment) to take Kerry’s seat later. They’re always happy to gimmick the rules to suit themselves, and never seem to grasp that the change could ever affect them negatively.

It all comes down to the wisdom expressed in the old saying, "Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely." They are so desirous of, and drunk on, power that they cannot see anything beyond tightening their grasp. The fact that they might one day be on the other side of the power grabs is irrelevant to them.
