Taiwan-based Foxconn Group will invest US$40 million in Pennsylvania, the US, over two years, according to group president Terry Guo.

The investment is in line with the US government's Advanced Manufacturing in America policy, Guo said.

Foxconn will invest US$30 million in Foxconn East America, a subsidiary based in Harrisburg, to expand an existing R&D team to set up an advanced manufacturing facility for high value-added products for applications including automobiles, medical care and environmental production, Guo said. The expansion will recruit about 500 employees.

In addition, Foxconn will invest US$10 million in Carnegie Melon University in Pittsburgh specifically for R&D on robotic industrial automation.

I wonder how long Foxconn will tolerate our labor and environmental regulations?

I was a temporary company staffer (HR Rep.) at a Foxconn plant here in Texas. Best paying straight salary job I’ve ever had and only had to work three days a week.

Sure. I design power supplies for a major semi company with HQ in Dallas. We are driven to work 24/7/365 to compete with Foxconn manufactured projects. They house their employees in dorms and work them on 3 8 hour shifts. We know exactly how they are beating our projects, through their labor policies.

For what it’s worth, design managers and product line managers determine who is hired. HR/staffing just facilitate if anything these days. For the past 10 years, HR has been cut to the bone. How would you know the hours that the product teams are working and who we are competing against?

I worked half my 20 years in manufacturing engineering, the other half in design engineering.
